Drivers from various segments of motorsports have raced in NASCAR. From F1 champions like Kimi Raikkonen to 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Kamui Kobayashi, driving in NASCAR has been a lucrative option for race car drivers. However, never in the history of NASCAR debuts has anyone had an impact like Shane van Gisbergen.
The three-time Supercars championship winner brought fresh air into the community with a historic win at the rain-affected Chicago Street Race. After that, the fans wanted him to return to the Trackhouse Racing #91 car. It looks like team owner Justin Marks has just answered the prayers of the fandom.

Following his win at Chicago, Shane van Gisbergen rose to a different level of admiration from NASCAR fans. Driving for Trackhouse as a part of the Project 91 plan, SVG supplied the fireworks with all his might, beating former champion Chase Elliott to the checkered line and etching his name in the sport’s history. This created hype for a much-anticipated return to NASCAR, which he did some time back in Indianapolis, albeit not as a full-time driver.
But following his prolonged stint in Australia, SVG declared his plans to go in search of greener pastures. This meant that the Cup Series was a potential destination on his list, having dominated in his debut here. Playing their part in realizing the 34-year-old’s goals, Trackhouse Racing has confirmed the recruitment of Gisbergen to their driver roster. According to reports, SVG will drive in all three national tournaments of the sport in 2024.

Exuberant about the move, Gisbergen expressed his happiness speaking to NBC, as he said, “I’m proud of what I have achieved here in Australia, but I’m excited by this new chapter in my career and the opportunities that it brings.”
It’s not just him that is excited; the majority of the fanbase is too. The inclusion of a driver for his talents is definitely a mouth-watering opportunity for the fans.

Shane van Gisbergen had cited his reasons for having a feeling of discontent in Australia earlier. After that, he made his oval track debut in the Truck Series race at Indianapolis, where he finished 10th, after which he ran the Cup race as well. From the looks of it, SVG does feel the exhilaration that he has been missing in a supercar.
Elaborating on the people who worked behind the scenes in getting this deal materialized, he added, “It is time for a new challenge and this adventure into NASCAR will be the biggest challenge of my career and one I’m really looking forward to. I want to thank Justin Marks and everyone at Trackhouse Racing who have taken a chance on me and given me this opportunity. I’m excited to get to America and get the season started.”
Team owner Justin Marks is also a massive admirer of the New Zealand native. Not only has Gisbergen won a race for the team, he has also opened up a door of opportunities for the team’s goal to bring in more drivers across the globe into the sport. Marks has also described the plan in place for him. The fans have flocked in to voice their pleasure over the completion of the deal as well.
