Shane van Gisbergen is going to be put to the test hard in his first-ever full NASCAR schedule season. After making history in Chicago last year, he earned a full-time ride with Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series. With this, there was also a promise of seven Cup Series races by Trackhouse Racing, which has now been fulfilled. Continuing the alliance, Trackhouse Racing will see SVG race under Kaulig Racing for the scheduled Cup Series races.

Managing both the Cup and the Xfinity Series scheduled will present a tough task for Shane van Gisbergen, but it could well turn out to be a positive one for him. He will be driving the No. 16 Chevrolet, which will also be piloted by A.J. Allmendinger at the season opener at the Daytona 500. This announcement has now shed light on Kualig Racing’s idea to run the No. 16, as Allmendinger had his shot at a full-time Cup schedule last year.

For a novice NASCAR driver, this schedule can be intimidating, and in all rights, it is to an extent. To kickstart his first-ever full NASCAR season, SVG made his way to Kaulig Racing in alliance with Trackhouse to race in the Xfinity Series. He will be piloting the No. 97 car for the team, and at the same time, he will now have to cater to his duties to compete in seven Cup Series races under the Kaulig banner.

Adding to his already packed schedule for 2024, Kaulig Racing has now announced their plans for their No. 16 car with Shane van Gisbergen racing on seven different venues. He will feature at Circuits of America (March 24), Talladega (April 26), Charlotte (May 26), Chicago Street Race (July 7), Watkins Glen (September 15), Talladega (October 6), and rounding off at Las Vegas (October 20).

This schedule means that he will have a jam-packed opening month of NASCAR races under his belt. On February 17, he will be headed on double duty, pulling off both the ARCA Menard Series race and the following event that day for his Xfinity duties. Now he has also added the COTA Cup race for the month, which will run parallel to his Xfinity race time.

It could well turn out to be a big season for the Kiwi driver, who has hardly had time to breathe since his move to the US from his homeland. During SVG’s first full season, he was expected to get a taste of Cup Series action, but with the recent announcement, he could potentially get a big bite of that cherry. Reacting positively to this challenge, Shane van Gisbergen said he could not be happier to race both in Xfinity and Cup Series races in 2024.

He exclaimed, “When I first started talking with Trackhouse about moving to the U.S., we had no idea how many races we could secure but I knew I wanted to be with that team and organization. There has been a lot of hard work to get to this point and I could not be happier to know that I get to race for an Xfinity Series championship and then get a proper go at the Cup Series on road courses and ovals. Kaulig is a proven winner in both the Xfinity and the Cup Series, and I know with the alliance with Trackhouse, this will be an incredible first year for me in NASCAR.
