With the much-awaited Chicago Street race finally in the rearview mirror, NASCAR nation is back again scrounging for more racing news. And guess what, they weren’t let down disappointed as NASCAR’s most loved driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr had a fascinating proposition at hand for them.
This week’s Dale Jr Download featured none other than Matt Kenseth, the 2000 Coca-Cola 600 winner. While the trio, including Mike Davis, discussed many topics, the conversation picked up pace and intrigue when Kenseth started uncovering his Carl Edwards stories to which Dale Jr and his friend Davis revealed the blemish he got back in the day.
The JR Motorsports co-owner revealed how one incident between Kenseth and “sensitive” Carl Edwards that made his and Davis’ opinion change about Edwards altogether.

Dale Earnhardt Jr Reveals Some Lesser-Known Carl Edwards Stories With His Former Teammate, Matt Kenseth
Following NASCAR’s inaugural street course in Chicago, NASCAR nation was again treated with a fascinating Dale Jr Download episode. This one really got the fans’ attention, as it had lots of intriguing Carl Edwards tales. Though Edwards left the sport prematurely citing personal reasons, he is still adored and loved by the racing community wholeheartedly.
While his helpful nature and loving personality made him a favorite for fans, Dale Jr in his podcast revealed lesser-known detail about the driver. Kenseth, who was a longtime teammate of Edwards both in Roush Fenway Racing certainly knows a lot about Carl’s “sensitive” side as he opened up about young Carl’s intolerant character.
Sparking off the discussion was Davis, who mentioned the scene at Martinsville in 2007. Pointing out his “cheap move” with Kenseth, he said, “Like Dale, that issue at Martinsville changed your opinion of Carl and mine and I never thought of him the same, it’s like because that’s what I think about with him and I thought that was kind of a, it was kind of a cheap move.”

With Kenseth talking to the media post-race, Edwards came into the frame out of nowhere and pushed his teammate. As Dale Jr agrees that the incident certainly made a bad spot for Edwards, saying, “It was a bad look, moment for Carl”, his former teammate Kenseth opened up about his anger.
“He maybe had a little bit of anger issue when he was younger and he took everything really really personal you know like any comment that somebody would make in the media or anything announcer would say, I think he confronts somebody if you ever say anything bad about him like he was very sensitive when it came to all that stuff,” said Kenseth
With the trio going about with their tales, Mike Davis revealed the “one” time when the crowd booed Dale because of Carl Edwards.

After Kenseth gave his take on Edward’s demeanor back in the day, the conversation quickly shifted to 2006 Carfax 250. To give some background, Dale Jr went on to win that race after he bumped Edwards in the last lap, spinning him out. This then led a furious Edwards to confront Dale in the victory lane.

Talking about the aftermath of the incident, Dale recalled, “He said, Man, I want to I want you to know I shouldn’t have came into victory lane, I should have handled that differently, I was mad.” Listening to this, Davis detailed how all of this led to Dale Jr being on the receiving end of boos.
Dale Jr’s decision to wreck the #60 coming off the last lap clearly backfired as the crowd boo-ed him. While Kenseth thought the incident was good for TV, Davis shared, “You would love this. It was the one time Dale gets in victory lane and he comes out and you could hear boos, you could hear boos.”
While Kenseth tried to confirm if the boos were for Dale Jr or for Edwards’ victory lane stunt, Dale Jr being the honest man, knew it was for him. He said, “People weren’t happy with me, they weren’t happy, they didn’t like it.”
