Amid all the racing on the track, pit reporters sometimes have very difficult jobs. This is especially true in the NASCAR arena. Particularly when they have to interview drivers who are disappointed with their performances. Pit reporter Marty Snider pretty much faced this when he had to interview Bubba Wallace after his controversial moment with defending Cup Series champion, Kyle Larson. In light of this, Dale Earnhardt Jr admitted that he admired how brave Snider was to interview a grumpy Wallace.
He said, “The only thing that I thought was interesting is Marty [Snider] kept fishing. The reason why that’s interesting to me is because I’m privy to conversations about what our bosses think about our interviews and the questions we ask. Particularly with the pit reporters.”

What else did Dale Earnhardt Jr say?
Dale Jr noted that Snider was simply doing his job and asking Wallace hard-hitting questions. At that moment, he really felt like a veteran reporter, especially since he has been a pit reporter for the majority of his career. In the last couple of years, he has also handled pre and post-race NASCAR shows.

He continued, “So the pit reporters are put in a unique situation where they are the ones who have to stand there in that moment. It’s uncomfortable, the driver’s mad, he doesn’t even want to be there. He knows he’s getting ready to have to get asked a question that he doesn’t want to get asked. This happens in tons of interviews. How many times have we seen Kyle Busch roll his eyes at Marty. I’ve done it. This is a tough situation for a pit reporter, but he’s doing a job.”

So when Bubba Wallace called him out for ‘fishing’, Snider was simply doing his job. This is because it is his duty to conduct as much research and homework as possible before conducting his segment of the broadcast.
