“A friend in need is a friend indeed,” was the motto for the regular season finale in Daytona. Amidst the whirlwind of wrecks and a heart-wrenching barrel roll, the ultimate race of the regular season was a treat for the eyes. In the intense battle for the last playoff seat, the audience witnessed teammates forming a coupe and trying to solidify their playoff fates.

The one partnership that carved a mark was between the RFK Racing drivers. Both drivers held off the rest in order to take the chequered. Furthermore, it was Brad Keselowski who exemplified the real meaning of being a teammate as well as a team owner. The RFK Racing co-owner, in the post-race interview, revealed why he let Chris Buescher take the victory instead of himself.

The concluding race of the regular season bore testament to the desperation of the drivers who were willing to enter the post-season. However, several returned empty-handed to the pit lanes, as Bubba Wallace seized the 16th and the ultimate spot in the playoffs. The 23XI Racing driver can thank his stars as well as RFK Racing driver Chris Buescher for surging on the track claiming his third win of the season and sealing Wallace’s post-season fate.

It will surely be not a stretch to affirm that the RFK Racing cars have been the most dominant Fords on the grid this season. While team owner and 2012 Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski has 11 top-10s and 6 top-5s this season, Buescher, who displayed a clinical rebound and claimed victory in three of the last five races, accounts for the majority of Ford’s wins.

Nevertheless, the takeaway of the race was the synergy that transpired between the RFK Racing drivers. Although Keselowski had the recourse of snatching away the lead and notching his first victory of the season, he chose to maintain his allegiance to his teammate and settled for the second position. He played the true role of a teammate as well as an owner.

Owing to this, Keselowski spilled the beans on why he chose to do so and settled for the second position. In the post-race interview, Keselowski expressed, “You know the second is the first loser, but we could have ended up in a ball of flames in three and four two and that would look pretty dumb. The cars were certainly on the edge there at the edge and I got a good push from Aric Almirola. I was able to carry that through to my teammate Chris Buescher and clear him, but there were lot of cars breathing down our back.

It would have been really difficult to pull a move off without probably wrecking both us. So happy for Chris we still achieved on of our big results, of course wanted to win but we wanted to get fifth in the regular season points and kind of take all those bonus points with us into next week from being fifth rather than being 11th or 12th whatever it was, we could have fallen back.”

Moreover, Brad’s teammate Chris Buescher did not fail to acknowledge the help that provided Buescher the much-needed impetus to score his third victory.

In the post-race interview, Buescher expressed, That’s as much Brad’s win as it is ours. That was the right help, aggressive, sticking with us. I was waiting for him to do something there coming to the finish. I figured we’d be side by side. Looked like it stalled out a little behind there.
