The 7-time NASCAR Cup-Series Champion, Jimmie Johnson’s long-awaited IndyCar Oval Race debut displayed his incredible driving. And, we saw a great result!

Jimmie Johnson took a big switch from NASCAR over to IndyCar. When Johnson announced the switch, people were very critical of the decision. Unfortunately, many people expected him to perform mediocre-to-poor. However, Jimmie Johnson certainly proved them all wrong! The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion was seen barely missing a top-5 finish and having to settle for 6th, sandwiched between the 2 Chip Ganassi teammates.

“What a two-day adventure this has been. To be able to get enough laps in the race, to feel the tires from start to finish, green flag stops, being in dirty air, just how uncomfortable and treacherous that is. All of those little mistakes and little moments gave me a sense of the car and helped me feel really how to drive this car, how to create speed.”

“Second half of the race I started working my way forward in that final stint, had a very competitive car. Wished that I had maybe started the race a little further forward. I think I could have finished a little further forward.” Johnson said.

Although considering Jimmie Johnson‘s performance in the rookie campaign of IndyCar, it was not totally unexpected that he would have a bad start on his first Oval track race. However, at the end of the day, it is Jimmie Johnson, the driver that got 82 of his 83 race wins on an Oval track, including seven wins at the Texas Motor Speedway.

In the end, Sunday was just one race. However, it proves that Jimmie Johnson can handle Oval tracks in the Open-Wheel IndyCar. And, we are surely waiting for him to take his first career win in the Indianapolis 500 very soon!
