Ryan Blaney wants the oval back at Indy—Is he onto something or just dreaming?

Ryan Blaney is looking to back his statement from last weekend’s win at Pocono and aiming for a win at the Brickyard 400. Unlike the other crown jewel NASCAR races, this one is known for its unique celebration. We have seen drivers bowing down and kissing the bricks after their triumph on the start-finish line. However, the Penske star is looking to up the ante with his wild celebration ideas if he wins this Sunday.

The tradition of kissing the bricks was started by Dale Jarrett and crew chief Todd Parrott after winning the Brickyard 400 in 1996. It has to be noted that the racetrack holds special significance for the team owner, Roger Penske, who owns and operates the iconic venue and the NTT IndyCar Series. So, the Penske drivers will be competing for more than just victory this weekend in the Cup Series race.

In an interview before the race, Ryan Blaney explained how he plans to celebrate if he wins the Brickyard 400. “I mean, kissing the bricks is like a dream come true, you can ask anybody. I’m gonna lick the bricks if I win, that’s for sure. It’s gonna be nasty, but it’s gonna happen; but that’s just what everyone wants to do … Racing in IndyCar in general and all of them started kissing the bricks, to be able to do that with RP would be the coolest moment of my life.”

He certainly is planning to go overboard with his winning moment, and fans, for once, weren’t able to process what Blaney shared. This led to some hilarious reactions from the fans on social media platforms.

Fans starting to contemplate what a Ryan Blaney win would look like

For the most part, NASCAR drivers have refrained from being their true selves in front of the media. Therefore, seeing Blaney let himself go was appreciated by the fans. “There’s a lack of personality in NASCAR right now. We’ll take all we can get.”

This user suggested it was all a publicity stunt to get the media publication a few bites before the race, but accepted that it was indeed funny. “I think half the reason he does it is just to mess with the NASCAR media. Either way, it’s hilarious.”

Predicting how the start-finish line would look after this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race, this fan via Reddit stated, “If you’re in Indy this weekend, watch out. Snail trails gonna be everywhere 🐌.”

For the most part, Blaney avoids doing the usual burnouts; rather, he runs a polish lap as part of his victory celebrations. However, his carefree and honest reply about his next winning celebration was well-received by several NASCAR fans. “Dudes my favorite driver. A class act who doesn’t take things to seriously. Alan Kulwicki was my favorite growing up and every polish victory lap just makes me like him more.”

It is as if now fans are demanding the Penske star to win the race so that they will be able to see if Blaney stays firm on his words, “welp now i wanna see Blaney win to see if he’ll back it up.”

A few of them weren’t convinced that veteran team owner Roger Penske would put up with his driver’s antics, licking the bricks after winning the race. “The image of Ryan licking the bricks and Roger Penske standing beside him watching in absolute horror 😂.”

Given how quick and competitive the No. 12 Penske Ford has been recently, Blaney is among the frontrunners to win the Brickyard 400.
