Ryan Blaney’s Cup Series championship victory was not something a lot of people saw coming given his form throughout the season. However, one man who always believed in the Team Penske star was Dale Earnhardt Jr. The former Xfinity Series champion expressed his confidence in Blaney long before he found his purple patch of form. And that faith paid off big time. In response, Ryan Blaney shared a humorous message to Junior, suggesting that NASCAR was rigged.

If one looks at Ryan Blaney’s stats throughout the 2023 Cup season, it’s no wonder that people did not give him much of a chance in the early going. Team Penske and Ford were having their issues and it seemed like the title fight would be between Toyota and Chevrolet. However, as far as the 29-year-old is concerned, all’s well that ends well.

On the final episode of the Glass Case of Emotion podcast, Ryan Blaney spoke about Dale Earnhardt Jr picking him as a title challenger early in the season. Not a lot of people believed in Junior’s prediction during the initial part of the playoffs. However, as soon as Ryan Blaney won the race in Talladega, things began to change.

Blaney revealed that Junior texted him after his two playoff victories (Talladega and Martinsville). As far as Blaney goes, the script was followed to perfection and he won his maiden Cup Series championship.

“When we won Talladega, we won Martinsville, you know, he’d text me congrats and I was like, pick’s still alive man. Still alive, we got a heartbeat. Yeah so, it’s rigged. The script worked out,” the Team Penske star said jokingly.

It is always a good feeling when a driver of the caliber of Dale Earnhardt Jr believes in your ability. Another gesture of Junior that Ryan Blaney appreciated was when the former called the Ohio-born driver the day he had won the Cup Series to congratulate him. The driver of the #12 revealed that they had spoken for quite a while on that occasion.

“He texted me but he also called me that night which was pretty cool of him. Talked for about 15 minutes so that was pretty neat,” Blaney added.

While Dale Earnhardt Jr was a fan of how well Ryan Blaney handled the pressure and went on to claim the big prize, he believes that it was RFK Racing’s resurgence that pushed Team Penske to step their game up.

Under the leadership of Brad Keselowski, RFK Racing won three out of the last five races in the regular season this year. In the regular season final at Daytona, they achieved a historic 1-2 finish. At that point, people had started to believe that the team could challenge the likes of Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing. As per Dale Jr, that was the turning point for Team Penske.

“I would credit Ryan Blaney’s Championship success to RFK’s ability to get this forward to move. Nobody could get the Ford to run, they did, and it really woke up the other Ford teams. Instead of sitting there saying ‘Well we have a car we can’t compete with, we got to wait till next year, this car you can’t make it work’, well RFK did, they figured it out and it actually motivated Penske and the others to go to work,” the two-time Xfinity Series champion said.
