While Sydney Sweeney and her fiance’s cameo in Blaney and his wife’s pictures has been much discussed, the Penske driver revealed the details behind their friendship.

Sydney Sweeney is pretty much one of the rising stars in the Hollywood scene. Ever since her breakout role in the hit TV series, Euphoria, her career has been on the upswing. However, the 27-year-old actor has a hidden side to her that not many know of. As it turns out, she is a massive fan of automobiles and maybe even racing. Recently, Ryan Blaney took her for a spin at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in a NASCAR Cup car.
According to the Team Penske driver, the NASCAR Racing Experience was their first meeting. Blaney told Bob Pockrass, “That’s how we initially met, was the ride-along. They were in town, her and her fiance were in town. I got to show them around and take them for some laps around Charlotte. They were absolutely cheesing ear to ear, they loved it. Then they got to drive and they though that was the coolest thing ever. So it was kind of how we got to know each other and kept in touch. Our plans aligned, to where we were going to be, in the same spot at the same time. It was a pretty fun deal.”
Later on, the two of them and Blaney’s wife Gianna, were spotted on holiday together. To be precise, the trio were celebrating the New Year together. Incidentally, December 31st happened to be Blaney’s birthday, so it was pretty much a double celebration. The venue for their unexpected reunion was in Key West, Florida.
In the buildup to his birthday, Blaney and his wife discussed their vacation plans. As it happened, the two them are particularly fond of Key West in Florida. By his own admission, Blaney wanted his celebration to be a little low-key. However, they soon got the invite to head to the island city, and Sweeney’s presence was practically a coincidence. Safe to say, the couple enjoyed themselves with their new friends and found them to be extremely nice.
To say that she had fun during the NASCAR experience, was a massive understatement. The Euphoria star was all smiles as she got a chance to ride in the car and she was cheering like crazy. Sweeney could appreciate it because she is a massive lover of cars. It was also fitting to be teaming up with Blaney because she is quite fond of Fords.

Currently, Sweeney has three movie projects on the horizon. This year, she will be starring in a psychological thriller, titled The Housemaid. Beyond that, she has a thriller film in the works, called Echo Valley. Finally, she has a yet untitled movie in the line-up, which is expected to be a biopic. The subject is former female boxer, Christy Martin, and Sweeney is expected to play the lead role.

According to Blaney, “She’s very into cars, she loves cars, big Ford person as well. So that’s cool, she’s really, really into automobiles and different types of cars. She has an old Bronco, so we got talking about her old Bronco that she built. I got an ’85 and her’s is a mid ’70s. She’s a huge fan of cars and motorsports. It was neat to kind of show her into my world a little bit. She’s just a person like everybody else, very, very gracious to us and we were the same way. Down-to-earth people, and that’s always nice.”

To be precise, Sweeney actually built her own Ford car. The car in question was a 1969 Ford Bronco, and she did it during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Additionally, she and Ford teamed up to give away a custom-built 2024 Mustang GT. Another Ford car that is in her garage, is a 1965 Ford Mustang, which is a classic American muscle car.
As for Ryan Blaney, he is currently preparing for the 2025 NASCAR Cup season. He won the title in 2023, but missed out last year to his teammate, Joey Logano. So far, Team Penske has been in fantastic form in the past couple of years, across different racing disciplines. Earlier, the Porsche Penske team triumphed at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and that could set the tone for this year.
