“Bad boy” Kyle Busch’s offbeat request amidst the ruthless race had his crew bewildered!

The Enjoy Illinois 300 was certainly a treat to Busch fans and the whole Richard Childress Racing camp. Encountering several earlier setbacks owing to the equipment’s inadequacy, the team briefly struggled to get things going. But to the surprise of many, the proud Chevy team effectively capitalized on the car’s capabilities, maximizing its potential for the 1.25-mile track just east of the Mississippi River.

Busch fended off the fierce attack from his former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Denny Hamlin. In the end, the #8 Chevrolet took Rowdy home, beating Hamlin to the finish line by 0.517 seconds, after the 11th caution of the race on lap 236 sent the race into overtime.

With this impressive victory, Busch has improved his standing in the points table, climbing past Hamlin to the 7th spot with 3 victories, tying with his part-time #51 Truck driver William Byron for the most number of wins this season. Following the race, NASCAR released its Radioactive series where the fans saw Busch sending out an awkward request during the race to this crew that had his spotter, Derek Kneeland, scratching his head in confusion.

Calling out the hungry pack breathing down his neck, Busch yelled, I need a ****** fly swatter.” To which his spotter asked, “What did he say?” However, the situation resolved itself when the#8 crew chief, Randall Burnett repeated the driver’s joke, He needs a fly swatter.”

With the stellar win, Kyle Busch has now inched his way closer to the domain of the all-time greats of the sport as he etched his name into the history books.

Over the years, Busch has evolved a lot. The once cocky and polarising persona has now matured into a fierce driver. And fans are loving this. While the win at WWT Raceway meant his 3rd win of the season, Sunday’s win also got him his 63rd career win.

Among the drivers with three or more wins in 10 or more seasons, the 38-year-old is currently tied with NASCAR great David Pearson with 11 such seasons to his name. With another such season, he will be at par with The Intimidator and Darrel Waltrip. There are no surprises as to who sits at the top.

After Busch drove to the victory lane with yet another clinical performance, he also shared his thoughts. Realizing there is still a lot of scope for improvement, he said (as reported by motorsports.com), “We’ve had some really good runs. We’ve had three wins obviously, which is great. But we’ve also had some of the dismal days as well,”

Further, he added, “We just got to find the greater planes, if you will, and level this thing out a little bit. It’s great to be able to score a win in St. Louis for Randall’s hometown, that’s really good. So, the team is really on a high.”
