Although it was Denny Hamlin who won the Kansas race, the driver that made it to the headlines was, yet again, none other than Ross Chastain. Right now, he is the talking point of every NASCAR social media post and podcast. Well, everyone likes to be popular, right? But it is surely not fun when it would cost a lot. This is something that is being experienced by Chastain after his brawl with Noah Gragson.
While it was an on-track incident that made Gragson confront Chastain, it eventually ended up being a full-fledged brawl between the two drivers in the pit lane, where the #1 driver even punched the rookie in outrage. Both the Trackhouse Racing driver and Legacy Motor Club driver stole the limelight. Though fans loved the drama, Chastain later put the whole ‘punchgate’ fiasco behind him as he declared a truce with his latest rival.

Ross Chastain reveals his side of the story!
Every action has a reaction, and this one action from Chastain brought consequences. Recently, making an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he poured his heart out and shared his feelings. Pat, the host of the show, asked him, “Do they [NASCAR] love it [fighting]? Do they have to quietly? So you guys get yelled at for it? Do you maybe think about with how good you throw that right hand?”
Chastain smiled and very calmly responded to his question. He said, “NASCAR wants us to compete, right?” and explained how their schedule for racing has them face-to-face with their competitors every weekend for over thirty-eight races in a year.
He said, “We don’t have weeks or months at a time to not see each other and, forget about what happened in the last race. Every week, we go back and we race again. So that’s why you see stuff tend to get fired up more because it’s not just one or two races a year.”
“So yeah, they didn’t love it.”
“I had to have some tough conversations. After Sunday, there was a lot within the team and Trackhouse, there was a lot of tough conversations with NASCAR. And with my family, look, I don’t want my memaw and my meme, right my grandmother’s, to see me fighting.”
