We didn’t have one thing on our what-to-expect list—that’s Kyle Larson milking a cow! But this isn’t a poor joke but a reality that Larson went through. Larson, you see, might be a driver with 13 years of experience in NASCAR but over at Indy, he is still a rookie. And as per traditions, a cow milking experience is a must!

We bet when he thought of soaking in the entire Indianapolis 500 experience, Larson didn’t expect to find himself under an udder.

At Indy 500 there is a somewhat new tradition in place for rookies. So it goes like this – after a rookie finishes the qualifying race and a penultimate practice, they return to the speedway the next morning for a crack at milking a cow. When a reporter asked Larson whether he was ready to milk the cow, his expressions were blank and he said, “What? Is that a thing?” This was the first time he had learned about the custom and he was alarmed. At that moment he just said: “Do we get to glove up?”

And the best thing about this NASCAR goat is that he never gives up easily. So off he was on a hot and bright Tuesday morning to milk a cow. The black and white Holstein was busy munching away when Larson bent and gave one of the udders a couple of tugs. Let us also mention—he was ungloved!

We have to say that he didn’t seem experienced enough, but Larson cleared that up for us. He said, “I grew up in a city. I’ve never really been around a cow.” So while everything that Larson does comes naturally to him, there are some things even the greats of NASCAR cannot do best. But he did manage to get some stream of milk, so kudos for that! This left the NASCAR fans with a couple of laughs in the comment section.
