As the official 2024 NASCAR season nears, drivers are hot in practice sessions, whilst also engaging in activities behind the scenes. However, the activities may not be related to their core skill of driving, mind you. Recently emerging talent Carson Hocevar, who among many rookie drivers, is aiming for Rookie of The Year, was seen testing his photography skills at the garage.

While doing so, he was approached by a NASCAR official, who commented on his off-track engagement, but Hocevar had a good comeback for it.

Hocevar was in the garage, putting his photography skills to the test, shooting a Toyota Truck. The photographer whose camera he used was visibly surprised at his skills. He captured a photo with “the flag, the banner, the triple truck, and the Craftsman.”

Yet very soon a NASCAR official strutted up to him with an authoritative posture. He asked him, “Did I not just see you operate the camera? Where’s your photography badge?”

But then Hocevar was determined to rub it in the official’s face. He said, “Hold on. You call his boss and you see the photo I got, and you tell him he can’t use that photo because I operate. It’s only the most perfect photo. Show him the photo!” The photographer flipped out his camera, and said,“It’s pretty good.”

Then Hocevar took a dig at the official for prioritizing the brand image everywhere. He said, “If you’re gonna put brand identity in all categories, that’s it, there’s six of them. Six times you see Craftsman. That’s pretty good.”

Carson Hocevar’s charismatic personality will also shine through in his first race at Daytona. It is a tough race, but he is perfectly calm.

Carson Hocevar is ready to burn rubber on the Great American Race at Daytona Beach on February 18th. His confidence in the race is amplified by the fact that he does not hold much expectation. In a virtual teleconference with media last week, he opened up about the placid approach he is adopting for the race.

“I haven’t really thought about (Daytona) yet,” Hocevar said. “The bigger thing for me is just being in this field, even having a Cup car, period, let alone racing in the Daytona 500. It all just seems so big. I’m just enjoying it. It’s how I was able to go into last year and not be so nervous. I thought it was a win just to be in the field, let alone focusing on performance or expectations.”

He also talked about his and the team’s ambition, stating, “The goal on our whiteboard is definitely win Rookie of the Year. Spire has two shots at it, but the No. 77 team definitely wants to be that one to get it. We just kind of have the top 20 in mind, really. Whether it is top 20 in points this year or next year, that is sort of my benchmark, at least. I just want to focus on being above a top 20 average in finish or points, which would be a huge gain from last year.

Carson will be competing in the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Spire Motorsports. Last year, he made heads turn with nine Cup starts and contention for top-10 finishes. His best performance was when he finished 11th at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

While Hocevar is aiming for the Rookie of the Year title, he has two solid contenders to consider: Zane Smith and Josh Berry.
