The 2025 NASCAR season opener at Daytona didn’t need help in creating a spectacle, but it got some, anyway. With the roar of stock cars ready to roll and fans packing the grandstands, it was Donald Trump who grabbed the spotlight before engines even fired. The President showed up in “The Beast,” his armored limousine, and paced the field to kick off the Great American Race.

Trump’s speech to the crowd was one for the books. He praised NASCAR’s unyielding spirit, calling the race a tribute to America’s greatness. “From the roar of the engines on the track to the echo of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ soaring through the stands, the Daytona 500 is a timeless tribute to the speed, strength, and unyielding spirit that make America great,” Trump said. His words struck a chord with the fans and the drivers alike.

Fast forward a few months, Trump again made headlines—this time not at a racetrack but inside the White House. He hosted the Team Penske delegation led by Roger Penske himself, fresh off another round of championships. Photos of NASCAR and Indy 500 champions standing inside the Oval Office quickly went viral. But it was NASCAR Cup series champion Ryan Blaney’s comments that summed it all up.

Ryan Blaney is in awe after meeting President Trump!

Team Penske’s visit to the White House wasn’t just another photo op. It was a full-scale celebration of dominance across multiple motorsports series. Ryan Blaney, the 2023 NASCAR Cup champion; Joey Logano, the 2024 title winner; and Indy 500 victor Josef Newgarden were all present. Alongside them stood Roger Penske, NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps, and President Steve O’Donnell.

The group met with President Trump to celebrate recent victories and Penske’s continued success across racing disciplines. However, this meet left Ryan Blaney awestruck. Before the Bristol race, the 2023 Cup series champion said, “It was a cool experience to be able to celebrate Penske’s accomplishments. It was nice to get invited and be able to go, and I would put it up there. It’s like you couldn’t turn down the opportunity, right? You get to go to the place and meet the person running your country. So, it was a fun day.”

Blaney’s words encapsulated the gravity of the event. For a racing champion like Blaney, the chance to step inside the Oval Office and walk around the halls of the White House was a rare and unforgettable moment. Notably, this was Blaney’s first visit to the White House, as the last NASCAR driver to get this experience was Joey Logano, back in 2019. So, this was Logano’s second trip to visit the US president in his backyard.

However, the visit wasn’t just about trophies. It also happened on the same day Trump hit pause on a controversial round of tariffs that had rattled the markets. Standing in the Oval Office, Trump pointed at Roger Penske and investor Charles Schwab and quipped, “He made $2.5 million today, and he made $900 million!” While impossible to verify, the statement turned heads. It sparked talk that the Penske camp may have discussed the financial impact of Trump’s tariffs behind closed doors.

Notably, NASCAR Commissioner Phelps had earlier admitted on Hauler Talk that the tariffs posed an “unknown” threat to the business side of racing. “It’s something that we are obviously going to watch very closely, and I’m sure the folks are having discussions. It’s an unknown. Like, I had a conversation with Rick Hendrick, and obviously, his base business is affected by the tariffs,” he had admitted.

Roger Penske, who also oversees a vast dealership empire and truck rental business, had plenty of reasons to be worried about the impact of tariffs. All that said, Trump seemed far more interested in Penske’s racing success. He praised the transformation of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, even hinting at a personal visit: “People tell me it’s amazing. I’ll have to get there, maybe this year.” With the Indy 500 set for May 25, a Trump appearance isn’t out of the question.

As for Ryan Blaney, the White House visit was one more moment in what has been a career-high stretch. But after the handshake photos and media frenzy, he’s back to business—and chasing redemption at a track where he’s long been snakebit.

Blaney eyes redemption at Bristol!

As the NASCAR Cup Series roars back into action at Bristol Motor Speedway, Ryan Blaney is focused on redemption. Blaney has led the most laps at Bristol without a win. He’s chasing the victory that keeps slipping away. The Team Penske driver has led 507 laps at the track. That puts him among the top lap leaders at the high-banked half-mile.

Additionally, he currently holds the track record for the fastest lap at 132.075 mph, set back in April 2019. In March 2024, Blaney secured his first career NASCAR Cup Series pole at Bristol Motor Speedway. This track has a special place in his heart, but it also represents a unique hurdle that Blaney has yet to overcome. However, Blaney isn’t alone in this pursuit.

Chase Elliott, Christopher Bell, and Erik Jones are also still winless on Bristol’s concrete. But none have Blaney’s track record there. Bristol rewards aggression and precision—traits Blaney’s shown every time he suits up. This weekend might be his best shot yet. Meanwhile, Denny Hamlin eyes a third consecutive win in the ongoing season. He will also pose a massive threat alongside Kyle Busch, who has been dominant at Bristol. But Blaney has unfinished business, and this might be his turn.
