Recently, the racing community witnessed one of the most competitive races in recent times at South National Motorsports Park. The 250-lap Late-Model race was simply a Thanksgiving present for fans that came a bit late but offered value in plenty. With 50 laps remaining, the crowd got an epic duel in the making when the Late-Model legend and SHR‘s new #4 driver, Josh Berry started closing the gap on race leader, Brenden Queen.

The HMS super-sub, Berry, and his crew chief Rodney Childers played a masterstroke, changing all 4 tires to catch the 26-year-old who was in the lead. What followed next was spectacular back and forth between Berry and Queen. The two went at it with all their might, giving their all, going toe-to-toe, racing hard yet clean.

However, in the final 15 laps, another phenom got to the front pushing Berry to the back to challenge Queen. Kaden Honeycutt, the 20-year-old pranced into action capitalizing on the Berry-Queen battle but failed valiantly only to finish 2nd. But his post-race comments did not sit well with many as the youngster translated hard racing to super aggressive racing. This prompted Childers to come out with a jab, poking a sly one at the young gun.

Rodney Childers delivers harsh truth to Honeycutt after his over-the-top comments on Josh Berry

33-year-old Josh Berry who will be heading to Stewart-Haas Racing to pilot the #4 car in 2024 was looking for another title to add to his name when he entered Sunday’s Thanksgiving weekend race. Berry, who was the defending champion of the tournament had tough challenges from the youngsters, especially from former ARCA Menards series driver Queen aka “Butterbean.”

Other was the 20-year-old Truck Series part-timer, Kaden Honeycutt who started the race from the front. However, despite starting from the pole, Honeycutt couldn’t take home the win as Queen in his #03 car put up a tough fight, denying the phenom the win. Obviously frustrated losing the W from his cusp, Honeycutt voiced his displeasure, going a tad bit overboard, as was evident from his post-race interviews.

However, this also warranted a stiff but veiled jab from veteran Rodney Childers, who in his tweet wrote, “If everyone didn’t like that race, then something is definitely wrong with them. What an incredible race at the end @joshberry drove his butt off. It was a fun weekend and it’s been awesome getting to know Josh more and more. @masondiazracing and everyone @SNM_Park did amazing.”

Well, for one, a young and upcoming driver critiquing a consummate legend of the sport will never be taken lightly, be it racing or any other sport. Unfortunately, that’s the route the 20-year-old took when he expressed his frustration vividly. While he was taking aim at Queen for racing him hard, he unintentionally fired a shot at Berry.

In his post-race interview, he said, “I felt like we were better than Brendan in there and then I just caught those two. I don’t know what the heck he was doing with Josh. He was all over the place. I think that was because Brendan was chasing around the race track. As soon as I got underneath both of them, Josh was doing it wrong. He was running straight through me in Turn 1 and that was it. I couldn’t get there. I tried to go back to two, that’s all I had. I hate that. Every time I am racing someone,at the end of the race, they choose to use me up and run straight through me. There is nothing else that I can say about that.”

He further added to his take, saying, “This is just stupid, stuff like that. People need to be get their points beat, honestly for doing stuff like that. Either way, two second-place, two big races in a row.”
