It was raining speed on the track of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The drivers engaged in fierce battles as they jockeyed for the lead to clinch the checkered, in order to concretize their position for the playoffs. However, the saying “May the best one win” came true, with the best one being Front Row Motorsports’ Michael McDowell. The driver put up a clinical performance to secure his second career win in the Cup Series.

The victory does bring a sense of relief for McDowell, who sealed his spot in the post-season; but his victory also brought a sense of dejection for Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott. The #9 Chevrolet driver assuredly put up a dogged fight as he battled for the lead, but couldn’t force McDowell to commit an error. However, it seems that not all are disappointed in Elliott’s defeat.

Yet another weekend passed by and the most popular driver in the current Cup Series grid failed to secure a victory, slimming his chances of making it to the playoffs further. Nevertheless, the 2020 Cup Series champion showcased a dominant performance and executed the team strategy well at the Brickyard, as he fought tooth-and-nail to snatch the lead away from McDowell.

However, the Front Row Motorsports driver prevailed and was able to hold off Chase Elliott and glided his car into the victory lane. The #9 driver was clearly dejected by the results from the race, as this was the nearest he has come to a win this whole season. The despair was evident in his post-race interview with NBC.

He expressed, “Really appreciate the effort man. The NAPA Chevy was really good, but congrats to Michael, he ran a great race and stayed mistake-free, that’s what you need in order to win.”

Regarding chasing McDowell down, Elliott added, “Yeah, I lost ground under the pit cycle. Was trying to pace myself for the long haul and kind of had a green flag pit and I thought I just did that. Needed to do a better job getting through traffic.”

However, it seems that there is a multitude of voices out there who were rooting for the FRM underdog.
