During one of the restarts at Darlington, Larson and Chastain found themselves vying for the lead on the front row with just six laps to go. As the battle intensified, Chastain attempted to maneuver his way past Larson but ended up pushing him into the wall instead. The incident not only spun Chastain out but also resulted in a 20th-position finish for Larson. This collision was just one of several run-ins between the two drivers during the race, reflecting an ongoing rivalry that has been brewing for some time.
In a post-race interview, Ross Chastain shed light on his side of the story. He explained his intentions behind the move that ultimately led to the collision with Larson, saying, “I fully committed into Turn 1 and wanted to squeeze Larson up. Chastain acknowledged the aggressive nature of his racing, but he also expressed that his actions were not intended to cause harm or result in a crash.
Rick Hendrick, the owner of Hendrick Motorsports, spoke out against Chastain’s aggressive driving style. I’ve told Chevrolet that. If you wreck us, you’re going to get it back.”
Hendrick emphasized his loyalty to Chevrolet but made it clear that he expects his team to stand their ground when faced with such incidents.
