Kyle Larson is a special talent, one who is always up for a challenge to compete in anything that runs on four wheels. He has time and again stressed the importance of Cup Series racing, but he likes to keep himself busy with auto racing that stretches beyond the border of NASCAR. And this is exactly what he will be doing this weekend. After Kurt Busch’s 2014 attempt at “The Double”, the HMS will look to complete the Indy 500 race and the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend.
However, it looks like Rick Hendrick and his team at Hendrick Motorsports have been preparing for this run and are secretly shooting a documentary on Kyle Larson’s historic attempt. According to a report by the Sports Business Journal, the shooting began in the fall of 2023 and would conclude this weekend.

A report by the SBJ stated that the production company Marky Media and Emmy-winning director Cynthia Hill have been working on the unnamed project since last year. Also, talent manager and producer Adam Gelvan is working on the distribution side of things to make the documentary market-ready.
The NASCAR Full Speed docuseries was widely appreciated by motorsport fans, and it looks like we just might have another success story in the form of a documentary. Kyle Larson’s Indy 500 run has been garnering international recognition. And given his impressive qualifying run, starting P5 for this weekend’s race has further raised the hype around his historic attempt.
Most modern-day NASCAR drivers try to stick to their roots in stock car racing. But the 2021 Cup Series champion is just a unique race car driver. Even after his qualifying run last weekend, he quickly flew back to North Wilkesboro to compete in the All-Star race. Despite starting at the tail end of the field, he finished P4, which was again a testament to his relentless pursuit of winning races.
It’s fair to say that if Larson does manage to complete the historic run this weekend, he will arguably become the superstar NASCAR driver of this generation. And that will be his aim when he hops into the Arrow McLaren Indy race car this weekend.

We have seen many race car drivers share a different view of what success in auto racing means for them. However, the driver of the No. 5 HMS car considers winning to be the only means of measuring success. In a recent interview with Jeff Gluck on the Athletic, Larson explained, “I’ve read a lot of the answers, obviously. And I think it’s circumstantial on their situations and what caliber race teams they’re with. But for me … it definitely comes down to winning.”
Well, he certainly backed this statement when he took another reporter by surprise when he was asked about his future run at Le Mans. Hendrick Motorsports, in partnership with NASCAR, completed their first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, running with the Garage 56 project car. Larson, during the practice runs for the Indy 500 race, was asked about his future run at Le Mans. While he expressed his ambitions to compete in the historic endurance race event, he opted to do so in a competitive race car.

“Well, I would like to do that in a true race car. You know, racing against other competitors and stuff. I think the Garage 56 stuff was really awesome, but they’re not really competing against you know other people in the same category of cars. I would like to do that.” Larson said this via David Land’s YouTube channel.
The reason he races for NASCAR’s winning team should give you an idea of how competitive Larson is. So you see, it’s more than just an attempt to complete the 1100 miles this weekend. It provides Kyle Larson with a genuine opportunity to script history, and he just might do that by winning the Indianapolis 500 race.
