Very few NASCAR teams come close to matching the legacy and the might that Hendrick Motorsports has created over the years. They are the winningest team in NASCAR, despite Mr. H having to shut off his operation in 1984. But destiny had other plans for the team, and the win by Geoff Bodine at Martinsville ushered a new life back into the team.

Since that win on April 29, 1984, it has been 40 years of success for the team. To commemorate this milestone, the entire HMS team will have a ruby anniversary celebration across the whole season. Taking center stage at Martinsville, Rick Hendrick will drive the pace car, while Jeff Gordon and Geoff Bodine will take on the duties of co-grand marshals.

Hendrick Motorsports today announced its plans and initiatives to celebrate the team’s 40th anniversary season in NASCAR. The highlight feature of the ruby celebration is the ruby red paint schemes of their cars that will take the field at Martinsville Speedway on April 7. However, in another surprise move, it was also announced that Rick Hendrick will drive the pace car, while Jeff Gordon and Bodine share the duty of grand marshals.

The NASCAR Hall of Famer further reminded everyone that his team is still hungry for more success. In a press release by HMS, Mr. H said, “When I think back on our story, I have a hard time believing it myself. In 1984, we had five employees, 5,000 square feet of rented space and a lot of desire to make it work. I dreamed of one day winning a race, but I never imagined it would grow into what it is now. Every bit of success we’ve had is due to the contributions of our people and the incredible support we’ve received over 40 years. We’re here because of the commitment, the passion and the sacrifices made by so many. It’s been an incredible ride, and we’re just getting started.”

It’s not just the Hendrick Motorsports team celebrating their monumental achievement, but the entire NASCAR community. And thanks to their ruby celebration theme, fans will be able to witness NASCAR Cup Series action at a discounted price.
