Richard Petty is known for his relentless dominance and commitment to NASCAR, and his 7 Cup Series title serves as a testament to it. But apart from the NASCAR scene, Petty has other duties to look after, for example, his family, which he never fails to abide by. The latest instance of his love towards his family was showcased by none other than Petty’s granddaughter. The 86-year-old didn’t forget about the family’s decades-old Christmas tradition, following which his proud granddaughter penned down a heartfelt note of gratitude toward “The King.”

Richard Petty takes the Christmas spirit to new heights

As the sun rose on the 25th of December, the NASCAR community got engaged with their Christmas celebrations, inviting guests, meeting fellow racers, going on a trip, and whatnot. The list can stretch longer than the Southern 500.

However, Petty didn’t forget to make time for a cherished tradition that is being followed for 36 years. Like every Christmas morning, this year too, The King visited his granddaughter’s house to check on what gifts Santa brought.

However, as Maggie’s grown older now and is a mother of two, it is her two girls that got to indulge in that tradition with their beloved great-grandfather. Naturally, the expected visit brought immense joy to Maggie, who didn’t take time to share about the wholesome practice on her Instagram Stories. She wrote, “For 36 years my pepaw has came to see what Santa has brought me…do glad he still continues the tradition with my girls.”

The NASCAR veteran went down memory lane as he visited his former school, Randleman High School. Not only did he grace the students with his presence, but he also made a whopping $25000 donation to fund his former school’s equipment and tools for the institution’s career technical education program.

Petty unveiled the special feeling behind his noble act and said, “It was really special to come back to Randleman High School, where I graduated. And to be able to work with Northern, too, and give the shop some welders and some different things, for them to be able to learn their crafts. As time progresses, you’re gonna need people to be pipe welders, people take care of everything. So you know, everybody’s not meant to go to college. We’ve got to have somebody who does the work. And you know, as things progress, then I think they’re gonna be more and more in demand, it’s kind of a payback. That’s why we’re doing what we’re doing today.”
