Not to anyone’s surprise, Richard Petty Motorsports was recently sold. The majority interest of the team was bought by Maurice Gallagher. Previously, RPM was owned by Medallion Financial Corp,  a group on which Richard Petty recently expressed his criticism.

After the new deal went through, Petty described why it didn’t work with the previous owners. He said, “We wanted to work with somebody that knew about racing, wanted to race, wanted to be a winner, wanted to spend the money in the right place.”

Owner Maurice Gallagher expressed his excitement about going into this new venture and that their sole focus was winning.

Petty, who has also been appointed as the Chairman of the new Petty GMS team, spoke of how special it will be to see the No.42 racing alongside the No.43 car. He said, “I grew up watching my dad race that car, I worked on cars with that number way before I started racing. Dad had a lot of success winning races and championships with that number.”
