Following the Cup Series race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports created history. Kyle Larson took his second win of the season and had the honor of helping his team break a record. Prior to Charlotte, Chase Elliott helped the team equal Richard Petty Enterprises’ record for the most Cup Series wins.

Now, Larson’s win has propelled them ahead of The King’s team. In conversation with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Rick Hendrick said, “I really wanted to do it in Charlotte. It’s home, the shop’s a mile away from here. Richard is a hero, is a great friend, unbelievable ambassador for the sport. He’ll always be the King.”

Speaking about his own team, Hendrick is confident that they can win more races. The Hendrick Motorsports team has some good momentum and the drivers are working well together. Needless to say, Hendrick couldn’t be any more proud of them.

It will be hard for Richard Petty to wrest the record back

To be honest, it would be difficult for the living legend’s team to get the record back home. This is largely because, Hendrick Motorsports has four cars in its stable, while Richard Petty Motorsports has just one car. Naturally, this gives the former more chances for at least one car to reach Victory Lane.

Meanwhile, poor old Erik Jones has not been anywhere near the front of the pack. His best ever finish this season was a 9th place on the Bristol Dirt track. The last time an RPM car won a race, it was Aric Almirola back in 2014 in the iconic #43 car. For nearly 61 years, Petty Enterprises held the title of the team with the most Cup Series wins. This streak began all the way back in 1960 when Lee Petty reached Victory Lane. Since then, the team went from strength to strength until Almirola’s win.
