Wedding bells are ringing during the Olympics break, especially for NASCAR drivers. While Tyler Reddick and Daniel Suarez have already tied the knot, the next in line is Richard Petty’s grandson, the Truck Series driver Thad Moffitt. According to a post uploaded by Lauren Wellborn on her Instagram account, the couple recently got engaged. While a wedding date has not been announced yet, it’s only a matter of time before the couple gets hitched.

While just one race at Richmond Raceway remains before playoffs begin in the Truck Series, Thad Moffitt will hope being newly engaged will turn his fortunes around in what has otherwise been a lackluster season.

Thad Moffitt once said, “I may not have the last name ‘Petty,’ but I’m as Petty as they come,” a clear message to the NASCAR community that he’s looking to achieve great things on track. However, if his results in the Craftsman Truck Series are anything to go by, Moffitt has fallen short of expectations in his short career so far. Thad Moffitt hasn’t finished higher than 18th place since he made his debut in 2022. With no wins, top-ten results, or laps led this season, he is currently 30th in the driver standings, a staggering 554 points behind leader Christian Eckes. However, the 23-year-old will hope to finish the season strongly before playoffs begin at Milwaukee Mile Speedway.

In the meantime, Thad Moffitt has taken the opportunity to get engaged to Lauren Wellborn, after a brief period where the couple were in a relationship. Lauren is the owner of an online fashion retail brand, Lneilly, which has been in business for more than 3 years now. The engagement announcement was made on Lauren Wellborn’s Instagram post, where she uploaded a video with the caption, “in my engaged era.”

The couple joins Ryan Blaney and Gianna Tulio, as well as Denny Hamlin and Jordan Fish, as couples who are engaged and will be married in the foreseeable future. Recently, 23XI Racing driver Tyler Reddick finally tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Alexa DeLeon after the pair announced their engagement in May 2023. Daniel Suárez also utilized the Olympic break to marry Julia Piquet, daughter of Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet, in her hometown of Brasilia, Brazil.

The wedding date, being a Tuesday, was an unusual choice for the couple, but it allowed the couple to take advantage of the two-week break while letting Suarez compete in the NASCAR Brasil Series from August 3rd and 4th.

As for Thad Moffitt and Lauren Wellborn, their engagement announcement was met with much fanfare, as well-wishers took to social media to express their happiness for the soon-to-be-married couple.

With the engagement out of the way, Thad Moffitt will now shift his attention to Richmond Raceway in what will be his final Truck Series race of the season. The 23-year-old will hope for a strong finish on the 0.750-mile, D-shaped, asphalt race track in what has otherwise been a disappointing season. Expectations will be high from Richard Petty’s grandson, who will undoubtedly hope to make it into the Cup Series one day. The question is, will his performances back his ambition? Time will tell.
