When The King shows up, you can expect him to bring flair to the party. NASCAR legend Richard Petty arrived at the Charlotte Convention Center for the Class of 2025 NASCAR Hall of Fame ceremony. Legends of the sport, such as Carl Edwards, Ralph Moody, and Ricky Rudd, were bestowed with the honor Petty received in 2010. Sporting a custom suit that featured his iconic No. 43 in Petty Blue, paired with his signature cowboy hat, Petty proved that style is timeless. Even at 87!

But it wasn’t just the suit that caught everyone’s attention. During a red carpet interview, Petty casually joked about his matching shorts, leaving his son Kyle Petty and NASCAR reporter Alex Weaver in stitches. The video quickly went viral, with fans rushing to the comment section to celebrate The King’s unmistakable style and personality. “Iconic number, iconic colors, iconic hat, iconic driver,” one fan wrote. And honestly? They nailed it.

The King brings Petty Blue to the red carpet

Petty’s red carpet look immediately set social media on fire. Fans couldn’t get enough of his bold fashion statement and lighthearted banter. NASCAR’s Instagram video, captioned “The King has his drip 🥶”, drew several comments praising his outfit and larger-than-life personality.

As die-hard fans of Richard Petty would know, Petty Blue isn’t just a color, it’s an emotion for the man. The iconic shade, synonymous with his No. 43 car, became a symbol of dominance on the track. Interestingly, the color came to life by accident. In the early days, Richard’s father, Lee Petty, mixed leftover blue and white paint to coat their race car, creating the now-legendary Petty Blue.

Then, Richard Petty joked about his matching shorts and NASCAR reporter Alex Weaver played along, quipping, “We’ve not been anywhere inside the ballroom yet, so you gotta keep your pants on, Richard.” The playful banter had everyone, including fans, in stitches, proving that Richard Petty’s charm is truly unmatched.

In a 2019 appearance on Dale Jr.’s Dirty Mo Media podcast, Petty shared how the cowboy hat became his trademark. Back in 1979, his son, Kyle Petty, had a boot barn that sold boots and hats. A Charlie 1 Horse representative asked Kyle, “Would your dad wear one of these?” Petty tried it out, loved the look, and never looked back. Since then, the hat has been an essential part of his image, symbolizing his style, legacy, and unmistakable swagger.
