Richard Childress Racing has come under heavy criticism recently. Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon have struggled to secure a single victory in the NASCAR Cup Series, and the pair have suffered a combined total of 8 DNFs in just 22 races this season. Hopes for playoff spots are slowly fading and with four races remaining before the postseason begins in Atlanta, the time is running out for the team to get the results.
With NASCAR currently in the middle of a two-week break because of the Paris Olympics, Richard Childress Racing is going behind the scenes to show the extensive preparation before a car is ready for the racetrack. The team hopes that by providing a sneak peek into how the chassis dynamometer prepares the cars on track, they will instill some confidence in fans that better days are coming soon.

Richard Childress Racing has an illustrious history that spans half a century, but if the ongoing Cup Series season is anything to go by, the team looks like anything but a well-oiled machine. Kyle Busch’s No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro has struggled with speed and handling all season, and combine that with the multitude of strategy errors, running out of fuel in the last lap, to straight-up multi-car collisions, the situation has been anything but smooth for the two-time Cup Series champion. With the team’s reputation taking a hit after underperforming in the season so far, Richard Childress Racing is using social media to highlight the extensive preparations that are being undertaken on Kyle Busch’s car before the Cup Series resumes at Richmond Raceway.
A video uploaded on Instagram by Richard Childress Racing highlighted the role a chassis dynamometer plays in preparing the race cars before they take the track. Explaining the process, the narrator said, “This equipment measures and optimizes the vehicle’s power train, encompassing the engine, transmission, and rear-end gear as a complete system. After evaluating the engine on an engine dyno, we use the chassis dyno to gauge drive train efficiency by measuring torque at the wheels. In the video, you will see technicians connect conditioned combustion air, to replicate the engine dyno conditions, ensuring accurate and repeatable performance.”

The video went on to show Kyle Busch’s No. 8 Chevy being secured to prevent tire slippage, while the car’s engine fluids were warmed up. To assess the power train’s performance, the technicians put the car in gear and accelerated, observing the chassis dyno drums’ acceleration rate. The technicians also conducted multiple runs to get the average power output of Busch’s car to get the most accurate readings, making the necessary adjustments to the No. 8 Chevy based on the data at their disposal. Richard Childress Racing will hope that by optimizing the vehicle ahead of the Federated Auto Parts 400, they will be able to replicate or even improve Rowdy’s third-place finish on the same track in the 2023 season.
Kyle Busch has a fantastic record at Richmond Raceway, having won on the racetrack six times, the most amongst active drivers. The 39-year-old is very familiar with the D-shaped, asphalt race track, and will undoubtedly hope Richard Childress Racing will play its part in supporting him as he looks to secure his much-awaited first win of the season. If the team’s Instagram videos are anything to go by, every effort is being undertaken to turn their fortunes around, but it remains to be seen if that will translate to results on track.
While Kyle Busch continues to enjoy his holiday in Italy with his family during the two-week break, he is keeping track of the performances at the Paris Olympics. Rowdy was recently seen expressing his support to sprinter Noah Lyles, who was representing the USA at the French capital.

Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch was seen extending his support to Noah Lyles before the American sprinter took part in the 100m race. Rowdy was featured in a video that was uploaded by NASCAR on their social media handles, where he said, “Hey, I’m Kyle Busch, NASCAR driver. From one guy who knows speed to another, I’m wishing Noah Lyles from Men’s Track and Field the best of luck. Go get em’ over there in Paris.”
It seemed like Busch’s support paid off, as Noah Lyles went on to secure the gold medal in the Men’s 100m category, edging past Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson. The contest between the pair couldn’t have been closer, as both sprinters recorded the same time, but Lyles was just five-thousands of a second faster than Thompson, which helped him secure the gold. Acknowledging Lyles’ achievement, Busch took to X again to say, “Seems this aged well!! Great race,” while resharing the video in which he had expressed his support.

It has been a rough season for the Richard Childress Racing driver, but all will be forgotten if he gets that elusive victory before playoffs begin in Atlanta.
