Did Richard Childress go too far in blasting Corey LaJoie, or was it justified?

Kyle Busch just isn’t able to catch a break this season. Seems like Busch climbing out of his race car to end on a DNF finish has become a regular sight for the fans. Well, the race at Pocono wasn’t any different for him, as he was involved in a ‘big one’ during a late-race restart with 40 laps to go in the race.

The long straightaways at the Tricky Triangle allow the drivers to dive bomb coming on turn 1. Trying to thread the needle, Busch separated from the field after the initial clean launch and then hugged the apron on the inside. However, before he could lift off and get back inside the field on the corner, he was tapped by Corey LaJoie’s No. 7 car, which sent Rowdy flying off the track.

Next thing you know, it’s chaos on the racetrack as Busch collected multiple race cars alongside him. LaJoie seemingly retaliated against Rowdy before he clipped the back bumper of the No. 8 RCR car, sparking a big crash.

Team owner Richard Childress was baffled to see LaJoie blatantly taking out his star driver. “That damn 7 [Corey LaJoie] is a weapon. A damn weapon,” he said, on his team radio.

On the other hand, the No. 7 team had no remorse for the actions of their driver. Rather, they advised LaJoie to look after himself and not to worry about the incident. “F**k him, we ain’t worried about him. We’re worried about ourselves.” This certainly riled up Kyle Busch fans who certainly didn’t mince words in calling out the destructive act by the No. 7 team and its driver.

Did Richard Childress go too far in blasting Corey LaJoie, or was it justified?

Have an interesting take?

This was a case of two frustrated drivers unable to deliver the goods throughout the season. However, fans quickly questioned LaJoie’s talent and credibility as a race car driver, having intentionally wrecked Rowdy: “Of course, Lajoi lmao of course it was Lajoie glad he gets the top crew chief in the series next year he deserves it”.

Some didn’t even filter out their thoughts and emotions after witnessing the crash and came down heavy on the Spire Motorsports driver, “how the f**k is Corey LaJoie still in NASCAR?”

A second season with RCR was supposed to be the start of a new dawn. But the way things have panned out, the fans feel that this setback with his on-track performance is likely to take a toll on the 2-time Cup champion. Forcing his hand to take an early retirement from NASCAR racing, “Kyle Busch gonna retire after this one”.

Busch has always tackled the question surrounding his retirement with ease and calm. But his dismal showings in 2024 could see him invest some thought in taking a break from Cup Series racing. He isn’t expected to pull off a last dance, but according to this fan, he could do with a break from his turbulent racing schedule. “KFB gonna take a sabbatical until next year”.

At 39, Rowdy still has a few good years of racing left in him. Given the right environment, support, and a progressive racing program, he can deliver the wins. But, with the sorry state of affairs continuing at RCR, it’s just hard to see him have a storied end to his decorated racing career. “Kyle Busch has to be considering early retirement right about now”.

A driver who was accustomed to celebrating in the victory lane now finds himself out of the infield car center regularly. Surely something has to give in. How long will RCR entertain this mediocrity? And will the fans ever be able to see Rowdy back competing for wins?
