Did Austin Hill really mistake Ty Gibbs' gratitude for a middle finger? Classic NASCAR moment or what?

Getting aggravated during a race is almost a common occurrence in NASCAR. Many times this results in some unfriendly words and actions being thrown around. Sometimes things go on to the next level, where on-track or off-track violence is involved. Luckily, that is not the case for Richard Childress Racing Xfinity driver Jesse Love. This year marks his first year as a full-time Xfinity driver and that has not come without drama.

Recently starring as the guest on the Dale Jr Download podcast, Jessee Love shares his experiences of becoming a full-time Xfinity rookie and talks about the challenges faced on the tracks. Before joining the Xfinity series, he was racing in the ARCA Menards Series, where he won the championship in 2023, leading to his promotion.

After talking about transitioning to NASCAR, he was asked about support from other drivers as Love explained what happened.

Jesse Love’s misunderstanding with Sheldon Creed

“I know Bubba and Blaney like to flip each other off every time they’re around each other,” said the host before asking, “You got anything planned for the first time you go blowing by Connor on the outside or anything?”

Responding to this question, Jesse Love replied, “I don’t know; it depends, right? Like Watkins Glen, I’m just hoping I’m just up there.”

However, the host then brought up an incident from the Pocono incident, where he stated, “I saw you get flipped by Austin off one week; I forget where…” That’s when Love cuts him off to answer, “Yeah, Charlotte. I didn’t even get to my car; it was perfectly fine. So, Sheldon, I thought you gave me the bird at… when we were at Pocono.”

Love dove into the situation while explaining what really happened on the track. As he explained, “[Sheldon] gave me the bird, and I was like, I don’t even know what I did wrong. I texted operations like, ‘No, I was giving a thank you for something.’ So you can get confused from time to time.”

Have an interesting take?

It’s just Love’s debut in NASCAR’s Xfinity series and things have started to heat up. Although the bird was playful in his teammate Austin Hill’s case, there was a misunderstanding when it came to Sheldon Creed. While Jesse Love navigates through his first full-time season in the Xfinity series, he has already won a race.

Having 5 Top-5 finishes helps his case, as his team owner, Richard Childress, always knew he would do well.

Childress also stated that they have been following the young driver since his time in the ARCA Menards Series, where he managed to impress them with his performance. Love knows the chance he has been given.

Before joining the team, he stated, “I’ve been fortunate to gain a lot of racing experience at a young age, but nothing compares to the opportunity to race for a legendary team like Richard Childress Racing.”
