Richard Childress, owner of RCR Team and Austin Dillon’s grandfather, drove the ceremonial pace car at Atlanta. Although Austin isn’t having the best season so far, it didn’t stop Richard from showing his expectations on the radio while driving the Pace car. He used the opportunity to give a few words of encouragement to his grandson.

Austin acknowledged Richard’s expectations to deliver a good performance at Atlanta. He is also setting up to start in the SRX series ahead of the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.

Richard Childress gave a 4-word message to Austin Dillon before the race at Atlanta

While driving the pace car, Richard Childress came on the radio and asked if Austin was listening to him, which he was. He then passed on a 4-word message to his grandson for the upcoming race. Here’s the exchange that happened between the two.

Harvick’s spotter, Tim Fedewa told Richard Childress, “It’s you and the #29. Pretty damn cool.” To which Harvick responded, “That’s pretty awesome.”

Richard then came on the radio and asked, “You got me Austin?”

“Yes Sir! I heard you did a couple of burnouts there.” Austin replied.

“I was trying but I didn’t do it as good as you guys would’ve,” said Richard Childress. Let’s do one tonight. Let’s show them what we’re made of.”

“Yes Sir, Will do,” Austin replied.

All the while Austin’s winless season continues, he has decided to take on new challenges to join a different racing series.

Ahead of the Verizon 200 race on August 13, Austin Dillon will take part in the SRX series at the Eldora Speedway on August 10. Austin Dillon has always been one of the better dirt track racers and it seems like he wants to go back to his roots.

SRX’s CEO Don Hawk said in a press release, “We are very happy to announce that Austin Dillion will be joining us at Eldora Speedway”.

Austin also commented on his decision to join the SRX series. He said in a press release, “I love dirt racing. It’s so much fun, and Eldora Speedway has been such a key place for my dirt racing career over the years.”

He added, “I’m thrilled to be able to join SRX Racing at a track that has a lot of history and means so much to me personally. I can’t wait to make more memories at Eldora Speedway and battle along some of the most accomplished names in motorsports.”
