You might just see two Kyles from the NASCAR Cup Series attempting “The Double” next year. Kyle Busch had previously expressed his desire to run the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 but had to wait on his dream run because Kyle Larson had locked himself in for the 2024 fixture.

If Rowdy wants to have a go at attempting to complete the historic feat in 2025, the team owner, Richard Childress, will support him. However, he stated that the final agreement for the same would be between Kyle Busch and Jim Campbell.

With Kyle Larson just a week away from competing in the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, the RCR owner has come out to share an update about Busch’s potential run at the double next year. “We’ve talked a little about it. The right opportunities, the right team, the right situation, we would want to do it and I’m sure Kyle would do it.” He said via NBC.

There are a lot of ifs and buts rather than a straightforward answer to support his driver’s ambitious run. An update shared by Toby Christie via his X account stated that Richard feels that the final verdict on Busch’s run would remain in the hands of Jim Campbell. “Richard Childress says a Coca-Cola 600/Indy 500 run for Kyle Busch is ultimately a decision between Busch and Chevrolet’s Jim Campbell, but Childress says he would support it.”

Interestingly, back in 2002, Childress did support his driver Robby Gordon’s attempt at the double. So it was a surprise to see him put the reins of his driver into the hands of a Chevrolet racing executive. Kyle Busch did come close to competing in both races back in 2017, but his team owner, Joe Gibbs Racing, didn’t approve of his plans. It looks like HMS is the only team that allows its drivers to be active and competitive in different disciplines of auto racing, apart from NASCAR.

These comments didn’t come as a surprise, as Rowdy has recently been growing skeptical of his team’s preparedness and ability to provide him with a competitive race car.

Halfway through the regular season, this is the time for the teams and drivers to reflect on their chances of making it into the playoffs. Winless in all his 13 starts so far, Busch is one of the few big names who haven’t secured their playoff spot. While the pit crew troubles have plagued his runs so far, the RCR driver believes the No. 8 team needs to have more consistent results.

He was starting to develop a good string of results after back-to-back top-10 finishes at Dover and Kansas. Unfortunately, he did not have the same speed or performance at Darlington, ending the race P27. Sharing his thoughts on his run midway through the regular season, Busch, in an interview via Front Stretch, said, “I mean, two weeks that were really good. We made a good headway in the points, and then we had a really bad week, last week. You can’t be feast or famine; you’ve got to be consistent.”

Kyle Busch has been on a run of winning Cup Series races every year since 2005. He is on a streak of 18 years and would like to add yet another season, making it his 19th year running. While points are a good way to enter the playoffs, RCR and Busch are expected to contend for wins every weekend, not just points.
