Looking at someone like Dale Earnhardt who was literally nicknamed The Intimidator, you wouldn’t think the man was intimidated or scared by many things. But as it turns out, he was. Tony Stewart recently revealed not only the thing which scared Earnhardt but also narrated a hilarious story that birthed fears in him as well.

Over the course of his long career in which he climbed to the very top of the NASCAR legends mountain, Earnhardt create a reputation for himself. The man had a persona on and off the racetrack, which sent shivers down the spine of his competitors.

But if one wanted to send shivers down his spine, or for that matter, through Stewart’s, all one has to do is wave a bill.

Tony Stewart reveals what scared Dale Earnhardt Sr

During his appearance at the TheBubbaArmy podcast, Tony Stewart was asked to tell “the $50 bill story.” And as soon as Smoke heard those words, he went, “Oh man, I hate $50 bills,” which then segued into him telling a story about Dale Earnhardt.

“Dale Sr was real superstitious about $50 bills and we had Ronny Crooks was my shots guy and we were at Martinsville and they were lining the cars up on the racetrack, he goes, ‘After the national anthem, you take this $50 bill to Dale…wait till he gets in the car, don’t do it when he’s outside the car,'” Stewart recalls.

“So I went to hand that thing inside and Richard Childress clotheslined me and Dale Sr couldn’t suck back in the seat any further than he already was. He had a panic look on his face. And that is the same day Kenny Irwin, and I had our rap, and that changed everything for me as well, not in a great way.”

Stewart added that he too is quite superstitious, to the point where he refrains from not even touching a $50 bill.

“They were terrible luck,” he added.
