It’s not a stretch to say that Richard Childress Racing has signed a future superstar of NASCAR in Jesse Love. The former ARCA Menards Series West champion is racing in his first full-time Xfinity Series season and despite being a teenager, has been showing the experience of a seasoned veteran in the competition. He still has yet to confirm his spot in the playoffs but there’s still a long way to go and the 19-year-old has all the confidence in the world at the moment.
Love is on a streak of 3 consecutive top-10 finishes and last week, he finished P5 at Richmond Raceway. There have been times during the season when the driver of the #2 car has come close to winning but missed out due to some unforeseen circumstances. However, Love has his head in the game and will be looking to secure his spot in the last 16 this Saturday at the Martinsville Speedway.
“I want to lock myself in the playoffs earlier rather than later and I can do that this weekend and I feel like I can do it at all the tracks coming up in the next month so it’s just about getting better and not kind of getting stalemate. I fired off this year better than I thought I was probably going to and I just don’t want to get complacent with it. I want to just get a few things better every week,” he said ahead of the qualifying session.

After qualifying in P11, it will be tough for the youngster to challenge for the win but short-track racing is kind of his thing. After all, he has grown up racing mainly on tracks that are less than a mile in distance.

19-year-old racing prodigy hopes to make a name in short-track racing
This was proven last year when Jesse Love was a full-time driver in the ARCA Menards Series and won 10 out of the 20 races to win the championship. A lot of those wins came at short tracks like the Salem Speedway and the Elko Speedway. The history and legacy of Martinsville goes well beyond these tracks with all due respect and the Richard Childress Racing star would want nothing more than to register a win there and at other short-track races in the series.
“Hopefully by the end of the year go be able to race for a championship and we have some short tracks in the playoffs and I want to be really good at them so, coming back here in the fall will be a good advantage for me because I will have this weekend to figure some things out. I’m not gonna do everything perfect but I feel like I should fire off pretty good this weekend and then when I come back in the fall, hopefully have a ton of speed to where when things get out of hand, which they will, I have the speed to overcome that,” he added.

It will be interesting to see how the youngster ends up doing in his first full-time season but the way things are going, Jesse Love is a strong contender for Rookie of the Year.
