In an unprecedented decision by NASCAR, 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace was penalized with a single-race suspension last week. However, many believed that the punishment wasn’t adequate and the governing body needs to find a way to deal with such incidents. But amidst all of it, is it really fair to undermine Wallace’s achievements and call him a ‘headache’ publicly?

Recently, a Milwaukee sheriff, David Clarke, shared his opinions on Bubba Wallace and his action that led to a suspension through his Twitter account. In his post, the sheriff accused Wallace of being ‘NASCAR’s affirmative action hire.’ Moreover, he compared him to Colin Kaepernick and called the 23XI driver a ‘headache’ that no owner needs.

But apart from these accusations, what troubled NASCAR fans the most was a grave factual error. In his post, the sheriff mentioned that Wallace has only garnered a single rain-shortened career win. Which of course isn’t true. Upset by his words and the distasteful factual error, NASCAR fans decided to school the sheriff on his mistakes.

After Wallace’s retaliation at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and his furious outburst at Kyle Larson, members of the NASCAR community demanded action against the 23XI driver. And on Tuesday, the governing body suspended Wallace from the Homestead-Miami race.

What was Bubba Wallace punished for?

NASCAR penalized Bubba Wallace and his team after he spun out Kyle Larson on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. However, after that, Wallace physically assaulted the Hendrick Motorsports driver by repeatedly shoving him. Seeing this to be a violation of NASCAR’s Code of Conduct, a one-race suspension was announced by the governing body.

Explaining that the penalty primarily referees to Wallace’s actions on the race track, NASCAR’s Chief Operating officer Steve O’Donnell said; “Our actions are really specific to what took place on the race track. And when we look at how that incident occurred, in our minds, really a dangerous act. We thought that was intentional and put other competitors at risk.”
