NASCAR is a family sport. Over the years, we have seen many drivers who have carried on their family legacy and chosen the life of racing. However, 23XI driver Tyler Reddick is puzzled about his son Beau’s future and is taking it slow to figure out if he wants him to follow in his footsteps.
For the time being, he is pulling off a balancing act, as he doesn’t want to rush his 4-year-old son to get into racing. Meanwhile, Reddick’s father is anticipating when his grandson will kick-start his racing career. He talked about this situation in detail on the Happy Hour podcast show, sharing his reasons for not pushing his son to pursue the family tradition of racing cars.

Notably, Reddick began racing at the same age that his son is right now, at 4 years old. He first started to compete in the Outlaw Karts, and soon he started to try his hand at mini sprints, Midget Series, Dirt late model racing, and sprint cars. So given his racing trajectory, his son Beau is of the age where he should be making a start into the world of racing, but Reddick, like a good parent, doesn’t want to force his son to take up racing.
Speaking on the show with Kevin Harvick, he said, “I don’t want to push it on him. So I’m just kind of waiting it out. The interesting twist in all of this is like you know, he’s four now, and here in a couple of months, that’s when I started racing, like when I was four and a half years old. My dad’s asking me more and more often as we speak. Like, when are we going to get him in a cart? When are we going to do this? And I think I want him to decide he wants to do it.”
He also explained that Beau does like racing but also gravitates towards other things as well, just like a normal kid would. “He’s got a lot of interest in a lot of things right now. I’m just trying to better understand it. Like he really does love racing, he also loves baseball. I mean, he’s just a kid. He really likes a lot of things, and I think for me it is just trying to figure out what he really wants to do,” he added.

While he will have time to think about his son’s racing future, he is looking ahead to the big race this weekend at COTA. Going by his track record at the venue, he is backing himself to get the win at this season’s first road course race.

The 28-year-old is looking to pull off back-to-back wins at his favorite hunting ground, COTA. In his three trips at the 3.41-mile road course race track in Austin, Texas, he has finished in the top 12 positions, the top five in the last two outings, and the win last year. Given the track record at the venue, Reddick is looking to get a good result, knowing that he is expected to be among the top contenders to win the race.
“It’s important for us and this team to go to COTA and perform like we expect. Be in the lead, in the top five, part of the conversation of winning this race. It’s really important for where I’m at and where this team is at. We’ve got to go in there and perform,” he said via NASCAR.
