The aging process is as inevitable as the passage of time. People age and become prone to health-related problems. However, the love amongst fans for motorsports icons is immense, and any news that indicates their poor well-being is bound to make the fans uneasy.

Former Cup Series champion Cale Yarborough is the only driver other than Jimmie Johnson to have won three consecutive Cup Series, winning in 1976, 1977, and 1978. His on and off-track performances have made their way into his fans’ hearts. But with time, his health has declined. Recently, one of his rivals had a meet-up with him, and during the recently concluded 16th North Carolina Motorsports Association Industry Gala celebrating Bobby and Donnie Allison, he shared a peculiar feeling he got when meeting Yarborough.

Yarborough’s declining health has been a major concern among fans lately. His family has asked the NASCAR community to not call or visit him, but to pray for him instead. However, his former rival Donnie Allison did pay him a visit. Prominent NASCAR journalist Matt Weaver shared the story on Twitter.

Yarborough’s rivalry with Donnie Allison is well documented and such a meetup was quite unexpected. However, it did end on a hilarious note as Donnie mentioned during the event that he had resisted the urge to punch Yarborough, but only because Mike Helton, NASCAR’s Vice Chairman, was present there.

Though Yarborough and Allison are friends now, it used to be quite the opposite during their heydays as drivers—so much so that things once escalated to the point of manhandling.
