With one race remaining in the NASCAR 2021 Cup Series season, the focus will slowly shift towards the upcoming season. Although it is important to crown a champion, the teams that are out of contention will have trained their focus on 2022. In the buildup to the next season, there has been a lot of shuffling in the driver market. Additionally, some drivers often end up having their crew chiefs follow them or head elsewhere. Next year, Kurt Busch is expected to head to the 23XI Racing stable.

However, his current crew chief, Matt McCall, is off to Roush Fenway Racing to partner Brad Keselowski. Fortunately, Busch will still have a crew chief by his side, as Billy Scott is expected to join him. Scott currently deputises as the crew chief for the RSS Racing with Reaume Brothers and Our Motorsports in the Xfinity Series.

However, he will be promoted up to the Cup Series and get to work with the 2004 Cup champion. It is worth mentioning that he has had several stints in the Cup Series and even worked with Busch on several occasions. Other drivers included former NASCAR racer, Danica Patrick, Mexican driver Daniel Suarez, and Kurt Busch himself.

What lies ahead for Kurt Busch?

F0r the moment, the driver is focused on closing out the final race of the 2021 season. At the same time, it will be the final race for the Chip Ganassi Racing team, as the outfit prepares to leave the sport. Naturally, it meant that their 2021 drivers had to hunt for seats in the upcoming season.

Fortunately, the 23XI Racing team and swooped in to nab the highly experienced Busch. Meanwhile, the Trackhouse Racing team will acquire the services of Ross Chastain, as they are also fielding a second car. Admittedly, Scott’s appointment is not fully confirmed, especially since the 23XI Racing team has not bought a charter. However, the rumors are beginning to intensify, and an announcement could soon be imminent.
