Social media is a tricky place. While it can extensively help get fame, it wouldn’t take much time to demoralize or defame an entity. One such event took place recently on Elon Musk’s multi-billion social media platform when a NASCAR journalist was attacked with wild jibes for doing her job.

The entity here in the spotlight is none other than Jenna Fryer. While Fryer has been a well-versed personality in motorsports, her constant updates have been of much help to the fanbase. Having said that, she recently lost her patience after being constantly bombarded with accusations.

Back in October 2022, Elon Musk completed a $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter. There on, he went on to revamp and improve the social media platform, encouraging the users to be more vocal with more freedom. While that has turned out to be a positive change, many sometimes tend to go overboard with their opinions.

In one such scenario, veteran journalist Jenna Fryer was on the receiving end of some relentless criticism. It all started when Fryer asked Kyle Larson about the rookie tradition of milking a cow at the rookie luncheon in the end-of-the-day presser at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

With this came the onslaught of criticism in Fryer’s way. While one fan took a jibe at her saying, “The most useless media member in all of May”, another added more fuel to it by saying, “In all of any given year.” Despite such criticism coming very often in Fryer’s life, it all went on to a different level when an X user wrote, “She’s literally the worst. Like that article from the 24 hours in Daytona about the dog. Totally didn’t need to be wrote.”

This traces back to the event in January at the 24 hours of Daytona. In an unfortunate event, Devlin DeFrancesco’s golden retriever puppy named Lucky was run over and killed in the motorhome lot. While Fryer reported it given the dynamics of how the events played out, she faced a lot of criticism because of it.

Eventually, longtime race owner Chip Ganassi came forward and took responsibility for the event. Not only that, he even issued an apology publicly. Had it not been for Fryer’s proactive and kind intent behind the incident, things may not have come to light.

However, the fan didn’t see it that way and went on to criticize Fryer on a different level recently. While the veteran journalist reverted back by calling him a bad person, Cody slammed her for making a big deal out of Devlin DeFrancesco’s puppy. He said, “Rightttt. But writing about a dog getting killed and making it out to be this huge breaking news is ok??”

Eventually, Fryer got tired of the arguments and gave up on doing her job as seamlessly as she could. She tweeted, Typically I just block the negative and attacking tweets. But so so many of you have ruined this platform experience that I barely want to post anything. So follow @By_NathanBrown for more extensive qualifying updates and I will just do my job without the misogyny and hate.”

Naturally, it would irk any sane human being should they face such accusations and criticism. After all, many tend to forget that even journalists have emotions. Luckily, the world is a better place to live in, even in the case of Jenna Fryer. Seeing the criticism, many dove right into her defense.

It is understandable why Jenna Fryer lost her patience there. While asking Kyle Larson the question was a mundane thing, covering the loss of Devlin DeFrancesco’s dog was one of the purest forms of tributes. After all, in today’s world, more often than not, many forget to give importance to the loss of animals. If a journalist won’t do it, who will?

Fortunately, many understand the invaluable job Fryer has been doing. To fight off the criticism showered by fans like Cody and others, several fans came to her defense right away. One fan wrote, “You kill it and many of us appreciate your reporting. Also, I totally fanboyed the couple of times you came into the restaurant I worked at.”

Another fan spoke on similar lines as he said, “Just mute it after posting and only go back to it if you want to engage. We enjoy your work. Don’t let a few tools ruin the good work you do for the ones of us that appreciate you Jenna.” At the same time, one fan had a strong message for the other fans. He said, “That’s because race “fans” are some of the most toxic and revolting people on the planet. Generally pure negativity at all times. Folks need to do better.”

While women only make motorsports better, a fan could have not put it in a better fashion. He said, I’m sorry you’ve been subjected to such hate and misogyny. Women belong in motorsports.”

Another fan came up with some valid points as he said, “I appreciate your your posts and your reporting. I thought all the criticism, reactions and negativity you received about reporting the dog incident was unfair and unwarranted. I suspect the hurtful attackers who ruin the experience for you on this platform are small minority.”

Indeed, it is true that unity always triumphs over hate. While criticism will always be around, it is the love of the fans that always gets the journalists going. Hopefully, the love shown towards her will help Jenna Fryer bounce back strongly from this event.
