As demanding as a full-time NASCAR career can be, that doesn’t stop drivers from being multi-talented. Whether it be owning race teams (cue Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin) or trying their hand in different tourneys (remember Kyle Larson?), there’s no dearth of side hustles for stock car drivers. And even 21-year-old Rajah Caruth is no different, as he recently opened up about what takes his time when he’s not racing in the Truck Series schedule.

Rajah Caruth keeps himself busy during his time off

NASCAR races are scheduled to run all year long and sometimes between two races, drivers find themselves with some time off which they can use to recuperate, rest and spend time with their family. Caruth, during a NASCAR Live podcast episode, explained how he likes to spend his time off.

The Spire Motorsports driver first opened up about how he used to have a packed schedule earlier, contrary to his current life. “I think last year, um, we had similar with the truck schedule, right? You have a lot of gaps. And last season I was rushing to fill my off weekends with Xfinity races, with Alpha Prime Racing.” he said via NASCAR Live podcast.

He stated how he would get into late model racing and find something to drive during his hiatus which helped him to build connections and sponsorships which might help him in the future.“Whether I would get to run a late model race at some point, or just to be driving something every week out of the year for the most part. And now this year, really the opposite of just not put any effort or energy into making that happen from a sponsorship and a connection standpoint,” he said, while also further revealing how that free time has helped.

It seems Caruth has been balancing a racing career along with his education, after graduating high school in 2020, as of late.“So it’s been interesting because it’s helped. I think that first off week was kind of nice just to get my bearings, finish the semester, and I’m still finishing it. I’ll finish it this week for spring for school.”

However, his that doesn’t mean racer has taken his eyes off the ultimate prize: A championship win.

It’s safe to say that in the brief time the racer has been competing, he has turned quite some heads. After securing his maiden Truck Series win in Las Vegas in March, Caruth joined 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace, and Hall of Famer Wendell Scott to be only the third black driver to win a race in a NASCAR Series. But Rajah Caruth has no will of stopping just yet.

He stated how he is focusing on himself currently and preparing himself where he can be a championship contender. “For right now, I’ve been really just focusing on spending more time at the race shop. But also making sure myself personally is in check from a work ethic standpoint, from a personal standpoint, and just making sure that once we start this next little stretch into the summer that I’m where I need to be at to be a championship contender.”
