During the NASCAR Truck race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Nick Sanchez snatched his second career win. However, there was one driver who was on a roll that day and just had some rotten luck. As it turned out, Kaden Honeycutt was looking pretty strong and a favorite for the win at Charlotte.

Unfortunately, things went horribly wrong for the driver in the middle of the race. During the pit stop phase, Honeycutt’s gas can got stuck and he pulled out of the pit box with the can still attached. Fortunately, there was no Final Destination-style incident, thank goodness for that. The good news was that the gas can eventually got dislodged and clattered harmlessly away for someone to pick up afterward.

Honeycutt told Frontstretch, “Yeah man, just team effort. This is a team effort, so I’m not going to point fingers at anybody. Still some things I need to clean up and figure out. I’m not going to blame nobody, we’re going to take this as a team effort. We’re going to go and review stuff and get better off of it. What a shame! My God! I don’t know what to say. I was here last year with this team, my first ever race. That man right there, called and wanted me to come race for here, next year. Man! We came here and it was a heartbreaker for Carson last year, and a heartbreaker again. Nothing much we can do, just try to come back next year and claim what’s ours.”

To be honest, in a situation like this, it would have been so easy to blame the pit crew. No one could really fault him for thinking that way because he was among the favorites to win. However, the NASCAR driver instead took some responsibility and admitted that he could have done better. Last year, he performed fairly decently and did enough to warrant another season with Niece Motorsports. Now, there is nothing he can do but rue what could have been and try again next year.

Honeycutt continued, “I was pretty p*ssed off the whole time. Just wanted to make out the best finishes I can, like I told you and everybody else. This is an owner’s title, this is what we’re going for. So I couldn’t just hold my head down and just putt putt around the race track and get what I get. Very excited to have these type of trucks, very excited that I know how to drive the trucks, thankfully. We’re going to take this and go on to Nashville for the next one and keep doing this as a team effort, is what it’s about.”

The 20-year-old praised his team for all their efforts in this race. Now, he is looking forward to heading to his next race, but it won’t be at Gateway; he will be at the Nashville Superspeedway. Honeycutt acknowledged that the pitlane error was one of the worst things that could have happened, but he persevered. Despite all that, he was able to salvage a spot in the Top 10 by finishing in 7th place. According to him, it is only a matter of time before he finally reaches Victory Lane, which will be a massive confidence boost for the team.
