Throughout NASCAR’s history, the sport has seen its fair share of father-son duos in the past. Whether it’s Bill and Chase Elliott, Dale Earnhardt Sr and Junior, Bobby and Davey Allison, or Lee and Richard Petty. The list is virtually endless, highlighting just how big of an influence a family can be in carrying on the legacy of an iconic name. Kevin Harvick, who has already cemented his place amongst the all-time greats after winning the 2014 Cup Series title may have found a successor in his son Keelan, who might not just live up to his father’s legacy but potentially surpass it.

Elated at his son’s recent achievement, Kevin Harvick took to Instagram to upload a post, captioned, “Great way for @keelanharvick to cap off his @uslegendcars season with a national win and championship!!” Meanwhile, his son Keelan expressed his gratitude for the accomplishment by saying, “Hey guys, we just won the national championship unofficially at Dominion. I can’t thank Joe Ryan Racecars enough, Hunt brothers, RealTree, everybody who puts hands on these cars, it wouldn’t be possible without them. My mom, my dad. It means a lot to me because I made a lot of mistakes last year and I’ve overcome a lot of stuff.”

They say that talent stands out, and Keelan Harvick was making waves in the motorsport circuit at a very young age. He won his first go-kart race at Trackhouse Motorplex at 8 years old and went on to gain more experience in the Micro and Mini categories. After winning the U.S Legend Cars/INEX Road Course World Finals championship last year, Kevin Harvick’s son shifted his attention to the Legend Car Asphalt Nationals Young Lions series this season, winning 33 races out of a possible 57.

Despite his age, Keelan Harvick is already driving with maturity beyond his years to achieve significant milestones on the racetrack. Having utterly dominated the Legend Car Asphalt series this year, the 12-year-old will be hungry for more as he climbs his way in the motorsports world. Given his current trajectory, it only seems like a matter of time before he makes his way into NASCAR. While a seat at Stewart-Haas Racing is outside the realm of possibility, won’t it be something to see him behind the wheel of a No. 4 car?
