The 2023 Cup Series season has been one to remember for Chris Buescher. From a point where nobody even believed he could win a race, the RFK racing star proved every single one of his doubters wrong. The 31-year-old won three of the last five regular season races and went as far as the round of 8 in the playoffs. He might not have made it through to the final four, but Chris Buescher was a proud man at the end of the Martinsville race.
The RFK racing star was already in a tough situation. Going into the race on Sunday, Buescher did not have enough to get through on points. There was only one goal for the 31-year-old, winning the race. Unfortunately, that did not happen but Buescher ran a good race, finishing P8 in the end.

Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing has made some great strides towards improvement this season. But they are not yet at that level where they could mount a strong title charge. The Hendrick and Joe Gibbs cars were faster on the day. However, there is no doubt that the team will build from this season of positivity and have a larger impact in 2024.
In a post-race interview, Buescher acknowledged that his car needed a bit more to be able to challenge for the win. Regardless, he was happy with what RFK Racing had done this season. Looking at the positives, there’s only one way they’d be willing to go: Up.
“It was a fantastic job all around. We needed a little bit more obviously to win this thing and move on. We knew that was going to be the case, but I’m extremely proud of our year all things considered,” the driver of the #17 said as per Speedway Digest. “We took two and got a lot of track position and we stayed with it so good for so long and just kind of got it right down there to the end and we lost some left-rear grip and some drive in it. That made it tough to battle back.”
The credit doesn’t just go to Chris Buescher but the entirety of RFK Racing, from the owners to the pit crew and everyone in between. The collective effort reaped rewards multiple times over the course of the season and Chris Buescher was extremely proud of everyone.
“I’m proud of this pit crew. I’m proud of this team. I’m proud of getting this Nexletol Ford Mustang a top 10. Statistically, we get to change our numbers here at Martinsville at last and say we’re capable of doing this. Now we just have to prove it next time,” Buescher added.
Despite his massive improvement this year, Chris Buescher missed out on a chance at the championship race. Martinsville was never one of the 31-year-old’s strongest tracks and his boss had also revealed it to be one of his weaknesses ahead of the race.

In a recent episode of the Mics Are Hot podcast, Brad Keselowski was quizzed about Chris Buescher’s chances to make it to Phoenix. He had a decent run in the races leading up to Martinsville but Keselowski believed that it would be an uphill battle for his star driver.
“Chris has done a heck of a job all year, but he has got his work cut out for him. You know, he’s got two tracks in front of him that I think he would tell you aren’t his favorites. And we need some really strong runs or a win. So, we are giving him everything we got, he’s giving everything he’s got, and we are excited for the opportunity. But this is top-level motorsports, and we are trying to be the best at it, and it ain’t going to be easy.”
