It’s nothing short of commendable what Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s efforts along with those of so many people led to when it comes to the revival of North Wilkesboro Speedway. The historic racetrack was on the verge of being completely wiped out from the general consciousness of NASCAR fans, as it had been ignored, sidelined, and forgotten by many.

But then a team effort led by Dale Jr. not only helped in reviving the racetrack but also helped in it landing its biggest gig in decades; the NASCAR All-Star Race.

However, the race in May may not turn out to be as good as many are expecting it to be under certain conditions. Or at least that’s what a part of the NASCAR fanbase thinks.

NASCAR Fans reject an imaginary possibility of the All-Star race at NWS

Ryan Vargas, a young Truck Series driver, recently shared a hypothetical scenario around the All-Star race at NWS which had many fans wishing it doesn’t come true.

“Imagine you’re a NASCAR fan from 2002 who time traveled to 2023; The All Star Race is at North Wilkesboro,” he tweeted. “There’s been a light drizzle all day but the cars line up coming to green, with their tail lights blinking, rain flaps deflecting spray and wipers buzzing.”

This prospect proposed by Vargas of NWS having the All-Star race under damp conditions was immediately a big ‘NO-NO’ for NASCAR fans.

A big part of the North Wilkesboro revival is Dale Earnhardt Jr

In a press conference from last year, Marcus G. Smith, the CEO of Speedway Motorsports, acknowledged and thanked the efforts and the persistence of Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the revival of NWS. Smith also touched upon how the entire journey of this revival started as he thanked the fans for their support too.

“A big thanks to Dale Earnhardt Jr who asked me about cleaning up the track back in December 2019, just for the purpose of cleaning it up for iRacing. And I really think that was the catalyst that put things over the tipping point to get us where we are today,” he said during the press conference.

Smith also gave “a big thanks” to all the race fans, who he claimed had wanted to see racing come back to North Wilkesboro “for years, and years, and years.”
