NASCAR has taken a more diverse and multicultural approach, stepping into the fresh decade of the 21st century. With a diverse fan base and changing dynamics of motor sports, NASCAR has seen some monumental changes in recent years, which also include ownership of the Cup team by non-racing celebrities. In 2021, Latin-American rapper Pitbull announced that he would be joining Trackhouse Racing as the co-owner, which this sowed the seeds of NASCAR’s most unique partnerships.

This news was a big surprise for everyone back in 2021, more so because, just months before this move, it was announced that NBA legend Michael Jordan would be a majority owner of Cup Series team 23X1. It’s not usual for a NASCAR Cup team to be owned by a rapper or musician, especially a successful artist like Pitbull. This partnership and association also aligns with NASCAR’s mission of reaching a new audience of diverse backgrounds attracted to the sport.

NASCAR will draw curtains to its 2024 Cup Series season with the opener at Daytona International Speedway on Feb 18. To make this affair a rather more happening one they announced that Florida native and co-owner of Trackhouse Racing, Pitbull will be performing in the pre-race show. With just two years together, Justin Marks, along with the Grammy-winning singer, has made steady progress to their team.

With Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain striving to elevate the team’s stature in the races, soon the team added a third entry, named ‘Project 91’. The idea behind the project is to attract international race car drivers and provide them with an opportunity to compete in the premier racing competition in the United States. Shane van Gisbergen is the product of this project and is amongst the few drivers whose journey will be closely followed by fans in the 2024 season.

As if this was not enough, Trackhouse Racing entered and embarked on another ambitious project. This time around, they took over control of the RNF Racing MotoGP team, thus branching out from the roots of stock-car racing to the highest class of motorcycle racing. Not to mention the onboarding of sponsors like Freeway, Wendy’s, Quaker Stake and GoPro to a relatively new team also speaks volumes about their vision and ambition.

With Feb 18 closing in, all eyes will be on the massive NASCAR weekend at the Daytona International Speedway. Further, fans will be eager to see Pitbull’s electrifying energy light up the arena.
