2014 Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick is enjoying his time as a team owner. Recently he was spotted at an American Hockey League game with his son Keelan. The Father-son duo cheered for Charlotte Checkers during their home game against Bridgeport Islanders.
Kevin Harvick co-owns the Checkers team. He bought some shares in the AHL squad earlier this year under the Zawyer Sports & Entertainment Group. Checkers are currently dominating the league with five back-to-back victories. However, in a candid conversation with his players, Harvick feared to break his team’s iconic streak.

On 21st December 2024, three-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kevin Harvick visited his AHL team in their home ground. Ahead of Charlotte Checkers’ home game against the Bridgeport Islanders Harvick joined the squad in the dressing room to give a pep talk. Harvick cheered his team for the game with some witty remarks about their jersey.
“Happy to be here tonight. I am so excited to see you guys in pink because everybody looks good in pink no matter what. So, if you look good play good. You might as well put on the show. So as part owner, as a fan, I am excited to watch you guys play tonight because every time I have ever been here it’s been a show. So, let’s go,” Harvick was heard in a video shared by the team.

However, things turned hilarious when the former NASCAR champion revealed his fear. He said, “I did not want to be responsible for breaking the streak. So, Richie let’s go.” Richie is the team equipment guy and ever since he has been reading out the starting five, the team has been on a dominant run. Harvick kept up this superstition in worry of breaking the team’s ongoing run in the tournament.
Before his pep talk, Charlotte Checkers had won eight out of their last ten games. They also entered this game with a four-match winning streak to only improve it. Checkers dominated visitors by winning the game with a 6-2 scoreline. John Leonard’s hattrick helped the Checkers to register their fifth straight victory. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Harvick had visited the team for a special motive. He was there for a special Saturday Neon Night game organized by his Kevin Harvick Foundation. After the game team auctioned their special Neon jerseys and raised $38,204.
While Harvick enjoys his life after racing with his son Keelan, the latter is making huge strides in the racing world.

This was not Kevin Harvick’s only outing with his son Keelan. Earlier this week the father-son duo was spotted at an NFL game. They had gone to watch the Carolina Panthers game where Junior Harvick had a fan moment with Sam Franklin Jr. However, apart from their family outings Keelan has followed his father’s footsteps to kick-start his racing career. He is the part of Rackley W.A.R. team in both the Super and Pro Late Model programs. Similarly, Harvick also started his career with Model programs before making it to the NASCAR Cup Series.
Speaking about his son’s future Kevin Harvick had said that Keelan knows how to do it. “We’ll probably keep pushing down the road of 25-30 Late Model races for next year. Now it starts with all the little things. The last tenth-and-a-half, two-tenths are the hard part, [along with] learning when to go, how hard to go, how to qualify and restarts. Now he knows he can do it, so everything will start to slow down. It’s a matter of repetition at this point”, Kevin was quoted as saying by Newsweek Sports.
Keelan took part in the South Carolina 400 earlier this year in his father’s Hunt Brothers Pizza Chevrolet #62. The 12-year-old finished 8th in the 96-lap event. “I feel really good,” Keelan said after the race. “I can’t thank these KHI guys enough. They put in a lot of work. It’s definitely cool to get my first one under my belt, but I can’t wait for the next one.” Keelan is evidently pumped about his racing career and his dad is right by his side all the way through it.

As Keelan Harvick is set to continue his model program his father Kevin Harvick is also set to continue his broadcasting journey. After he retired from competitive racing in 2023 Kevin joined Fox Sports as a broadcaster in 2024. With the Daytona 500 right around the corner, Harvick will continue his broadcasting journey as his son makes him proud on the tracks.
