The 2024 NASCAR Cup season may be over, but the NASCAR rumor mill never sleeps. The latest one involved the Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing team. Brad Keselowski confirmed that they have a big announcement planned in the coming days. This announcement is likely about a possible expansion to a third car on a full-time basis.
Of course, if that does happen, the big question will be about who will take that open seat. One of the favorites for the proposed RFK seat is Ryan Preece, who last raced for Stewart-Haas Racing. Of course, SHR has now ceased its operations, and most of its 2024 drivers have gotten seats elsewhere. Only Preece has yet to confirm his 2025 plans and the RFK slot could be his best chance.
While fans were happy with his move, one particular NASCAR insider got fans agitated with a sarcastic tweet on the matter.

People called out Kenny Wallace for his comments on NASCAR
In light of this, outspoken NASCAR insider Kenny Wallace commented on the situation. He sarcastically noted that the sport was ‘failing’, yet RFK Racing wants to purchase another charter. Wallace said in a post on X, “I can’t believe @RFKracing is starting another team since @NASCAR is failing 😂😂“.
This post was later shared onto the r/NASCAR subreddit where fans had a go at Kenny. Safe to say, many NASCAR fans did not take too kindly to his comments as Kenny was sarcastically calling out the fanbase. The chatter amongst NASCAR fans ever since the lawsuit between 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin, FRM, and NASCAR, has been that the sanctioning body is monopolizing the sport. Meanwhile, Wallace seems to defend that claim by pointing out that teams are still willing to purchase charters, defending NASCAR. This got under the skin of the fans for sure.
One fan observed, “The way NASCAR media loses its collective mind any time the sanctioning body is criticized is pretty funny. Of course there’s no mention from Kenny that this (alleged) new team is most likely due to an owner from another team leaving that team. Context is never helpful when you need to defend NASCAR at all costs!”

One fan echoed the sentiment to perfection while expressing the issues fans have with the sanctioning body and not NASCAR as a sport. They said, “There is a big difference between NASCAR the sanctioning body, which is failing by every objective measure, vs. NASCAR the sport, where teams risk all of their capital, blood sweat and tears, to give a good show and compete.” Essentially, Wallace is trying to make it look like fans are wrong to complain about the sport ‘failing’, while the fans are not complaining about the sport, but the sanctioning body instead!
Wallace was trying to expose the hypocrisy of the modern fan but targeted the wrong area and ended up massively backfiring.

Another person compared the state of NASCAR now to where it was several years ago, agreeing with Kenny’s claim. They said, “I love how “not ideal for owners” somehow is construed as nascar screwing teams over. Go back a few years and teams had zero protections. We’ve already seen massive improvements for teams in the last few years. If the teams think they should be making even more money than they already are then they should prove why they’re so valuable to the sport.”
Interestingly, few accused Kenny Wallace of trying to emulate Denny Hamlin. The current NASCAR driver already has a popular podcast, Actions Detrimental, where he airs his views, and is also fairly outspoken himself. While Kenny Wallace recently started his own podcast with As such, someone noted, “You’re trying to take the Denny Hamlin path, but it’s not working. Honestly since that podcast was announced, you’ve became insufferable.”

Furthermore, few people also talked about the finances behind running a NASCAR team. Frankly, it is not easy to gain the funds to sustainably run a NASCAR team in the long run. They said, “Slippery slope, Kenny. Do we wanna talk about the amount of teams we’ve lost the last 10 years?” Far too often, teams will come in and try to tough it out in the Cup Series, but most of the time, they will fold.
