This season, the NASCAR Cup Series is boasting of two highly anticipated races. First up is the NASCAR All-Star race at the North Wilkesboro Speedway, which is this weekend. In addition, there is another race that is receiving a fair bit of hype.
That race is none other than the inaugural Chicago Street race, the first of its kind in NASCAR. According to reports, the organizers have already begun to sell tickets for the July 2nd event.
Unfortunately, some of the reactions to the news have been fairly negative. Especially considering that the prices are fairly steep for some sections.

In the President’s Paddock Club, the tickets are priced at $3,015 per head, which is ridiculously expensive. The perks include two-day event access. This encompasses the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and two A-list concerts. Additionally, fans can enjoy All-inclusive premium food & beverage, watch pre-race and driver introductions. Finally, they will be treated to ultra-premium club space, which would have HVAC, flat panel TVs and comfortable furniture. However, all of this was not enough to turn the fans’ wrath away.

Several NASCAR fans were not too thrilled at this
Of course, very few people appreciated the fact that they would have to pay an arm and a leg to attend the race. According to them, very few people would be able to afford to pay that. Others observed that NASCAR often struggled to sell tickets that cost around $250. So what made the sport think that people would buy tickets worth $3015? In other words, the sport was ‘out of touch’.
Smh nobody is going to pay that.

Imagine paying 300$ for seats that get blocked by signage, if this is how it’s going to be setup 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/ySfkR6Do3D

Other people took digs at the infrastructure in the 3D renders of the track. They noted that some people would be forced to pay $300 for seats where their viewing could be potentially blocked by signage. Some even joked that at the price that the ‘President’s Paddock Club’ is being portrayed, the president himself had better show up.
There were some comparisons to Formula One as well

It didn’t take long for the outraged NASCAR fans to compare this stunt to something that Formula One would pull off. It is no secret that Formula One tickets are pretty expensive. According to some reports, an average ticket costs $600 just to attend a race in 2023. The cheapest tickets would cost less than $400, and the most expensive would be in the $950-$1050 range. For the recently concluded Miami F1 GP, tickets were around $5000 for the entire weekend. Meanwhile, membership to the upscale Paddock Club costs well over $10,000.

I cannot figure this out?
Most @NASCAR fans will complain about a $80 ticket. I don’t care what is involved. Food, good view and all that. But 3 THOUSAND ?. This sounds like @F1 . What am I missing? Talk to me? https://t.co/damJEAK5Ha— Kenny Wallace (@Kenny_Wallace) May 18, 2023
NASCAR ripped a page straight out of the F1 business model for this race. Im all for a diverse schedule and trying new things, but this race is gonna suck. These cars cant even race at a good road course like the glen.

Safe to say, a lot of people were convinced that NASCAR was trying too hard to compete with Formula One. What might scare some fans is that if they thought Miami was expensive, just wait until Las Vegas. Even former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace was pretty mad and admitted that people would complain about $80 tickets.
