It has now been confirmed that Daniel Hemric will take on the No.18 car for Joe Gibbs Racing in the upcoming 2021 Xfinity season. He will take up full-time duties with the team, as compared to a part-time drive with JR Motorsports last season.
Hemric will replace the departing Riley Herbst, and will indeed be pleased with the opportunity he has gotten. With a decent 2020 season, he feels the showing over the course of the year strengthened his chances of landing the seat.
Hemric was quoted as saying, “Some of the highest quality drivers in our sport have always kind of seen, what I’ve been able to do with things and programs as they were developing.“

Daniel Hemric believes Joe Gibbs drive is “an opportunity of a lifetime”
“I think as we got near the back after the year, we were able to do the things we needed to do. To put myself in these conversations where there’s an opportunity here and we took and ran with it.”
The no.18 also touched upon his number of career runner-up finishes, wherein he has not been able to win a race thus far. But regardless, he takes a lot of pride in those with a greater opportunity to win a race next season with Joe Gibbs.
“I hold a lot of pride, a lot of weight on my shoulders knowing where we were able to finish when we did finish second. That’s why I believe this is without a doubt, an opportunity of a lifetime knowing that I can take those experiences and do my job.”
