At the Texas Motor Speedway earlier, Carson Hocevar survived a wild finish to win the Truck race. He was ahead of Chase Purdy, Stewart Friesen, Ty Majeski, and Jake Garcia. However sixth place belonged to a delighted Hailie Deegan who notched up one of the best finishes of her career in the Truck Series. Interestingly, this result equaled her performance at the Talladega Superspeedway in 2022. Naturally, the #13 driver was delighted, but it is safe to say that some fans did not share that sentiment.

The 21-year-old Truck Series driver had several critics believing she simply lucked out in the race. This was largely because there were multiple big ones that eliminated several cars from the equation. All that Deegan had to do was stay alive in the competition and avoid wrecks. Needless to say, she did just that and reaped the rewards.

Some NASCAR fans did not give Hailie Deegan any credit

A point in her favor is that she is improving in leaps and bounds. In her last two races, she managed to break into the Top 20 with a best finish of 12th. Furthermore, the season is long and she can use the upcoming races to prove her critics wrong with strong performances.

Moreover, Thorsport Racing is an organization that is capable of winning races, with 46 under its belt. To make matters even better, the team boasts of having the 2021 champion Ben Rhodes in the squad.

However, according to many critics, without all of those crashes, she would not have finished as high as she did. Some believed she “stole” the Top 10 spot from Matt DiBenedetto in the #25 truck.

Others felt that she should not have deserved the high spot because the drivers who were major contenders, crashed out.

 

 

A fan went as far as to slam NASCAR. Their claim was that NASCAR is the only sport that mediocrity.

Although she won the Most Popular Truck Series Driver award last year, that popularity is rather complicated. Some believe that she is genuinely talented, and performances like this prove it. However, there is another group of fans who are of the opinion that Hailie Deegan is overhyped and an average racing driver at best. One thing is for sure, this debate will continue to rage until she can truly wow people with her on-track prowess.
