On Sunday night, the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway witnessed multiple accidents. Kurt Busch was involved in a particularly nasty one, as he got tagged out in one of Talladega’s infamous ‘Big Ones’.

The good news is that the 42-year-old was able to walk away from the scary accident. All this was in spite of his #1 car vaulting over two cars. His flip was part of an almighty multi-car wreck, where he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Admittedly, most of the field was bunched up for a good portion of the race. The whole thing got triggered when Clint Bowyer and Jimmie Johnson appeared to collide near the start-finish line. That culminated in Johnson getting loose and clipped Kurt Busch.

Busch’s car was around the inside of the track before he got sent upwards and he smashed into the outside wall. Then the car proceeded to somersault over Bowyer and Cole Custer’s cars.

The three drivers visited the medical center immediately and were fortunately given the green signal. However, the bad news was that their cars were too heavily damaged to continue. Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski were innocent victims but managed to get away with non-critical damage.

Of the incident, he said, “That’s the nature of this sport. You’re on top one week with a win and everything’s fantastic. And then this week here at Talladega, was hoping for a nice, smooth run and gain some points.

“I was just doing my job as a Chevy helper running Top-5, and the next thing you know, I’m going for one of the wildest rides I’ve ever been in.”

Admittedly, Kyle Busch and Bowyer are bitterly disappointed as they are competing for a playoff spot. However, Kurt’s win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway gave him automatic qualification into the Round of 8.

However, the same cannot be said about Bowyer, who was 20 points away from the cutoff before the race. As a result, he desperately needs a win at the Charlotte Motor Speedway to stay alive.
