Exactly two days before the highly anticipated Cup Series title decider went down in Phoenix, the 1-mile track witnessed one of the most chaotic races in recent times. Friday’s Truck Series showdown garnered widespread criticism for the poor track etiquette with drivers bumping one another with utter disrespect.
Following the madness that pushed the race to four overtimes in the closing laps, NASCAR drivers and veterans have come out to thrash the field for their embarrassing show. In fact, Ben Rhodes’ triumph was eclipsed by the poor show of sportsmanship so much that Cup Series drivers including Martin Truex Jr, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Busch bashed truckers. They even singled and called out the instigators who pushed the championship decider into madness.
On his podcast, Joe Gibbs Racing veteran, Hamlin upped the ante, firing away shots at Corey Heim for ruining Truck Series veteran Grant Enfinger’s shot, brutally doubling down on the #11 Toyota trucker for his actions.

Denny Hamlin thrashes Corey Heim for denying Enfinger the win
Even the flag handler was fed up with the field’s attitude. He was seen stooping down, resting his head up against the railing as cautions flew in one after the other with the drivers taking up things for themselves. Obviously, NASCAR nation was also angered by the surfeit overtime that pushed the race beyond the prescribed time limit.
While it was Carson Hocevar who sparked off the avalanche after bumping Corey Heim off for a spin with just 31 laps to the checkered, the Toyota driver’s retaliation initiated a bloody all-out war that pushed the field into a frenzy. Despite instigating Heim, Hocevar who will join Spire Motorsports next year, went under the radar, slipping the criticism with a sloppy apology. However, things weren’t along the same lines for Heim who got brutally thrashed by senior drivers including Hamlin who was torn seeing the action unfold.
Though Hamlin was sympathetic towards the 21-year-old, his action of pushing the race into a caution after he wrecked Hocevar in retaliation did not sit well with him. Mentioning how Heim’s action denied Grant Enfinger, who was probably the only mature driver in the field that day, the deserved win, Hamlin got on the offensive.
The veteran said, “I think in general what Corey (Heim) did was wrong, it wasn’t wrong except for in that situation, it’s the end of the race, Grant’s got this in the bag for what, I think it was 3 laps to go or something. Yeah, it altered the race, obviously altered the championship you know.”
But Corey Heim had his own say in the matter with Carson Hocevar. Needless to say, he didn’t hold back.

Within his four years in the Truck Series, Carson Hocevar has developed an infamous reputation. The driver may be moving up the ranks into the world of Cup racing. But his actions in NASCAR’s lower-tier division don’t align with his words. In fact, after his stint with Heim, the Toyota driver exposed the 20-year-old’s hypocrisy.

Hocevar admitted his mistake, saying, “I f***ed up.” But Heim, after getting his championship hopes squashed, was in no mood for plain words that meant nothing. According to NBC Sports, he said, “That’s just kind of what he does, he’ll wreck you and apologize and then he’ll do it again. It’s not going to be the last time he does it. Certainly not the first time he’s done it. I’ve known him for a long time.”

With the controversialist Hocevar heading to the Cup Series next season, he is certainly going to get himself in big trouble swimming with the sharks and poking them in the eye if he plans to keep this attitude.
