Can Frankie Muniz bounce back stronger after his Mexico ordeal, or is this a sign of deeper issues?

What makes NASCAR so great is that it is a sport for anyone and everyone. You surely know the actor who is also a racer in NASCAR, known for the shows ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ and ‘Agent Cody Banks’. Frankie Muniz in 2024 made his debut in NASCAR, first in the Xfinity series and then also in the Truck series recently.

This is not, however, his racing career debut. Muniz has raced before. He was also quite successful before it all came crashing down. What has made the internet buzz is not his debut, but the current sickness that he’s facing. It all started with his trip to Mexico. Muniz actively used X to keep updating fans about his condition. His recent update does not bring good news.

Kyle Larson & HMS Are Planning to Return to Indy 500 Next Year. But Should They?

Yes! It Is Great for NASCAR

No, It Was a Disaster This Time

Better known as ‘Malcom’ from the popular sitcom ‘Malcom in the Middle’, Muniz made his NASCAR Craftsman truck series in late June. The Rackley Roofing 200 ended with a P31 finish for Muniz. Before that, he made his NASCAR debut in 2024 in the Xfinity series where he played two races. First at the Daytona International Speedway and second at Pheonix, getting a DNF in both. Although, this is not Muniz’s start to a racing career. His connection to NASCAR and racing is much older. It was in 2001 when he got to drive the pace car for Daytona 500. He then also had the privilege to meet the Legendary Dale Earnhardt. It was the same race that led to Earnhardt’s demise.

The actor always wanted to get into racing. Perhaps it was meeting Earnhardt that made his will even stronger. It all started in 2004 when he participated in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach, finishing seventh. The following year, he also signed a two-year deal with Jensen Motorsport as a driver. Then he went on to compete in the Formula BMW USA Championship in 2006. After this he moved to race in the Champ Car Atlantic Championship from 2007-2009. In 2009, he garnered success as he stood fourth in the standings. However, a tragic injury put a pause to his racing. He’s now resumed coming to NASCAR, although health issues have followed him here as well.

It started when Muniz took a family vacation to Mexico after his Truck series race. He took to X to share about his trip as  he wrote “Enjoying Cancun with my family!” All was well until after his return, his wife, Paige Muniz shared their trips photos with a caption, “23 of us went to mexico, had a fantastic trip, then frankie got sick as a horse with a case of hay fever… that was my week, how’s yours?” Frankie also later confirmed it with his X post which read, “I’ve been insanely sick since my flight home from Mexico 8 days ago. Somehow I’m getting worse. May have been my last trip to Mexico after this misery.

What followed was a series of posts on X in which Frankie gave timely updates about his condition to his fans. The latest being, “This parasite will not leave me alone. Day 22 of feeling absolutely awful. 2 emergency room visits, two doctors appointments, countless IVs. Third prescription almost completed. Wrecked physically and mentally. So badly want to get back to training etc.”
